WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Freshman goalkeeper Megan Boyle made nine saves for the Towson University field hockey team, but the Monmouth Hawks (2-5) came away with a 4-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.
The Hawks got goals from four different players and broke through offensively at the end of the first half. Monmouth scored two goals 58 seconds apart with under three minutes remaining in the period to take a 2-0 lead into the half.
Trish O'Dwyer got the scoring started with her third goal of the season when she carried the ball in and got close to the near post, putting it home for a 1-0 lead with 2:39 left in the half. Less than a minute later, Hannah Loux added her first tally of the year to put Monmouth up by the halftime margin.
Monmouth outshot the Tigers 26-5 for the game, with Towson taking all five of its shots in the second half. Freshman Sam Zelenack led the Tigers with two shots.
Amanda Schoenfeld and Casey Hanna added goals in the second half for Monmouth.
The Tigers next go to Robert Morris for a match against the Colonials on Friday at noon.
