TOWSON, Md. – Two members from the Towson University women's tennis team will play in the 2014 Division I Atlantic Regional Championships, beginning Friday morning at Virginia Tech.

The championship event is co-sponsored by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

Freshmen
Lucy Williams and
Nicole Shakhnazarova will participate in the championships in main draw doubles. Williams will also play in main draw singles.

"This is a great opportunity for Lucy and Nicole," Head Coach
Doug Neagle said. "They will have a chance to play on a larger platform against some teams in the bigger conferences. It will be good experience for them."

Williams has earned seven singles victories this season. She took four wins at the Towson Tiger Classic to open her collegiate career. She posted a flight 'A' victory in the first round of the Bill & Sandra Invitational hosted at Navy as well as another flight 'A' victory in the first round of Navy's Blue & Gold Invitational. She was also successful against Mount St. Mary's in the Tigers' first dual match.

Shakhnazarova won the 'B' singles flight at Navy's Blue & Gold Invitational this past weekend, October 10-12. She also earned a singles victory against Mount St. Mary's, helping the Tigers to win their first dual match of the season.

The Tiger duo combined for a doubles victory in the first round of the 'A' doubles flight at the Blue & Gold Invitational at Navy. They earned a doubles win at Mount St. Mary's as well.

The regional championship is scheduled to begin on Friday, Oct. 17th and continue through Monday, Oct. 20th.
