TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's swimming and diving program continued their undefeated streak as they defeated George Washington by a score of 192-101 on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers improved to 7-0, 3-0 Colonial Athletic Association with the victory.
"It's great to beat a team that's very talented," Head Coach
Pat Mead said. "I think we had some people who stepped up today and took advantage of the opportunity today with it being the last home meet of the fall semester. We continue to see certain people, no matter what events we put them in, continue to step up and swim fast."
Seniors
Amanda Barber and
Victoria Oslund led the Towson effort as they earned victories in every event they swam in.
Barber and Oslund combined with freshman
Mary Escobar and junior
Jenna Van Camp for the meet's first victory in the 200-yard medley relay (1:46.01).
The senior duo teamed with junior
Charlotte Holz and sophomore
Macey Arnold for the Tigers' other relay win, the 400-yard medley relay (3:32.18).
Barber earned two other wins for the day, placing first in the 50-yard freestyle (24.60) and the 100-yard freestyle (53.24).
Oslund placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.87) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:00.08) to bring her victory total to four events.
Van Camp won three individual events as she was the third Tiger to win every event that she swam in. She timed 1:03.66 for a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke and 2:20.07 in the 200-yard breaststroke. Her final win was in the 100-yard butterfly when she timed 1:01.57.
Holz won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:07.08 for her second victory of the meet.
Arnold added a second win in the 200-yard individual medley, timing 2:09.40.
Senior
Taylor Jarsocrak won the 1,000-yard medley in 10:36.91.
Freshman
Kendall Krumenacker won the 100-yard backstroke in 57.81. Escobar timed 59.68 for a close second-place finish.
Junior
Christine Hammond won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:05.92.
On the diving boards, the Tigers swept the three-meter event as junior
Natalee Szopo placed first with a score of 287.10. Senior
Lyndsey Dickson (274.65) and junior
Molly Arceri (270.68) placed second and third, respectfully.
Arceri won the one-meter diving event with a score of 287.18.
"Today was a good meet but we need more of the new names to step up if we're going to be really competitive at the end of the year," Mead said. "We'll look for our next meet, the Bucknell Invitational, for some swimmers to step up."
The Tigers return to action on November 21 as they travel to Bucknell for a three-day invitational.
