TOWSON, Md. – The Towson women's soccer program signed six student-athletes to National Letters of Intent (NLIs) on National Signing Day, announced Head Coach Greg Paynter.

Midfielder Maddie Bove (West Chester, Pa./Unionville H.S.), defender Kristyn Hubbard (Downington, Pa./Downingtown East H.S.) and midfielder Caitlin Oswald (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin H.S.) all hail from the state of Pennsylvania and all three play for the same club team: Penn Fusion ECNL.

Goalkeeper Emma Burnett (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River H.S.) and forward Gabrielle Scirica (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West H.S.) are New Yorkers who play their club soccer for FC Westchester Elite and East Meadow ECNL, respectively.

Defender Kelsey Ritter (Davidsonville, Md./The Severn School) is the lone local product. She plays club soccer for Maryland United ECNL.

“We lost a big part of our team with the departure of our seniors,” said junior forward Sofia Read. “But we're excited for this class. They seem like quality players who will be a great addition to our team.”

“We are excited to welcome our 2014 class,” said Paynter. “They have a high level of playing experience in the most competitive leagues available to youth soccer players.  These young ladies will come in and add immediate credibility to our program. They will be expected to compete immediately to help our growth as a program.

“With our graduating class, we lost a record setting goal scorer [Emily Banes]. You cannot expect any freshman to immediately match that type of output. So it will be important for our returning players to assert themselves. With at least nine starters returning, we should have the foundation to challenge for a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championship.”
