No. 2 Maryland Defeats No. 19 Tigers, 19-8

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – No. 2 Maryland jumped out to a 10-4 halftime lead en route to a 19-8 victory over the No. 19 Towson University women's lacrosse team on Wednesday night in College Park. Redshirt senior attacker Ashleigh Rohrback and junior attacker Taylor Moore led the Tigers with three goals each in the game.

The game remained close for the first 13 minutes of action. Freshman attacker Gabby Cha gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead at 27:51. The Terps (12-0) scored five straight to take a 5-1 advantage with 19:30 to play in the half. Kelly McPartland scored four of Maryland's five goals during that stretch.

Moore then took control for the Tigers scoring three goals in a 2:08 span. On all three of her goal's she took possession of the ball behind the net and curled around the front for the unassisted tally. Moore's scoring stretch pulled the Tigers to within one, 5-4 with 13:22 to play in the half.

Maryland responded by scoring the final five goals of the half and took a 10-4 lead at the intermission. McPartland had a goal and an assist during that stretch while Brooke Griffin scored her second of the game.

Maryland outshot the Tigers 17-10 in the first half and held a 9-6 edge in draw controls.

The Terps scored the first two goals of the second half and pushed their lead to 12-4. The second goal of that stretch was Griffin's third of the game and came at 22:46.

Rohrback got going for the Tigers at 21:31. That goal was the first of three for the senior captain as she sandwiched her goals around one from Griffin. Rohrback's fourth straight “hat trick” made it a 13-7 game with 18:05 to play.

Maryland scored six of the game's final seven goals which made the final score 19-8. Jen Mendez led the Terrapins with two goals during that stretch. Redshirt junior attacker Andi Raymond scored the final Tiger goal of the game.

Maryland outshot the Tigers (5-5) 18-8 in the second half and finished the game with a 35-18 advantage. The Terps won eight of the 14 draw controls in the second stanza and held a 17-12 edge in that category at the end of the game.

Abbey Clipp made four saves to earn the win in goal for the Terrapins. Junior Kelsea Donnelly had 13 saves in the loss for the Tigers.

Rohrback finished with three goals and an assist for a team-high four points. Moore scored three goals for the Tigers.

McPartland led Maryland with six goals and an assist while Griffin had four goals and an assist.

Towson is back in action on Sunday, Mar. 30 when the Tigers begin their Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) title defense. The Tigers host Delaware in Johnny Unitas ® Stadium at 1 p.m.
