Women's Hoops Releases Non-Conference Schedule

TOWSON, Md. – An appearance in the Preseason WNIT highlights the 2014-15 Towson University women's basketball non-conference schedule released by second-year head coach Niki Reid Geckeler.

The Tigers will face four teams that reached the postseason during the 2013-14 season, including Penn State who the Tigers will battle in the first game of the Preseason WNIT. The Nittany Lions advanced to the regional finals of the NCAA Tournament last year.

Towson will open the Preseason WNIT on Friday, Nov. 14 at noon against the Nittany Lions. The winner of that game will advance to take on the winner of the Albany/St. Francis Brooklyn game on either Nov. 16-17. The loser of the season opener will fall into the consolation bracket but be guaranteed two more games on Nov. 21-22.

This will be the Tigers' second appearance in the Preseason WNIT. During the 2009-10 season, they lost the opener at West Virginia but bounced back to defeat Winthrop and North Carolina A&T.

Towson is then back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 25. The Tigers play the first of four games against a local foe when the squad travels to UMBC. Towson has won three straight games against the Retrievers.

Towson will spend Thanksgiving weekend in New York as it takes part in the LIU Brooklyn Tournament. The Tigers will face Rhode Island and La Salle in the event that runs Nov. 28-29. The Tigers haven't faced the Rams since 2010-11 or La Salle since 1996-97.

The Tigers open December with four straight on the road, with three of those four against local opponents: Towson travels to Navy (Dec. 2), Loyola (Dec. 4) and Maryland (Dec. 7). Of those three, Navy (WNIT) and Maryland (Final Four) advanced to the postseason last year.

The road trip wraps up with a visit to Wake Forest on Thursday, Dec. 18. Towson will face the Demon Deacons for the first time since 2006-07.

Towson closes out the month of December and its non-conference slate with home games against George Mason (Dec. 28) and George Washington (Dec. 31). Mason is a former Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) foe while George Washington advanced to the WNIT last year.

The Tigers' CAA will be released in the fall.
