OPENING TIP: After opening Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play on the road Sunday, the Towson women's basketball team returns home for three games in six days. The action starts Tuesday, Jan. 6 as William & Mary visits SECU Arena for a 7 p.m. game.
SERIES HISTORY: William & Mary comes into Tuesday's game having won 14 of the first 24 meetings between the two schools. Last year, the two squads split their meetings with each team winning on its home court. In Towson's 75-69 victory,
LaTorri Hines-Allen had 24 points and 10 rebounds while
Jazmen Boone had 18 points for the Tribe. The teams have split each of their last five meetings.
CAA HOME OPENERS: The Tigers are playing their first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) game at home this year Tuesday. Last year when the Tigers faced Northeastern in their CAA home opener, it was a thrilling finish as
Dominique Johnson drained a three-pointer at the buzzer for a 66-65 victory. Overall, the Tigers are 5-8 in CAA home openers since joining the league for the 2000-01 season. This is the first time since the 2008-09 season that the Tigers will face the Tribe in their CAA home opener. William & Mary won that game, 61-60.
PILING UP THE POINTS: Redshirt senior forward
LaTorri Hines-Allen had a monster game against James Madison. Hines-Allen finished with a career-high 31 points, after scoring 17 in the first half and 14 in the second stanza. She has now scored in double figures in 12 of 13 games this season and eight straight games. Hines-Allen is the second Tiger to score 30 or more points in a game this season (
Dominique Johnson-32 at Penn State). The Tigers are the only team in the CAA to have two players score 30 or more points in a game this season. Hines-Allen has now scored 20 or more points in seven games this season.
FABULOUS FORTY: Towson shot a season-high 46.3% from the field on Sunday at James Madison. It was the third time this season the Tigers have recorded a field goal percentage of 40% or better and the second time in the last three games. Towson shot a blistering 54.8% from the field in the first half of Sunday's game. It was the best shooting percentage for the Tigers in a single-game since they shot 50.9% against UNC Wilmington last year in February.
DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE: In addition to her big day in the scoring column against James Madison, redshirt senior forward
LaTorri Hines-Allen put in the work on the boards. Hines-Allen grabbed 10 rebounds for her team and CAA leading sixth double-double of the year. The Tigers have the CAA leader in double-doubles on both the women's and the men's side of the ball (Hines-Allen and
John Davis - six each).
READY TO GO FROM THE OPENING BELL: The Tigers put together a strong first half at James Madison on Sunday. Towson jumped out to a 15-2 lead early in the stanza and held a 38-30 lead at the break. It was the most first-half points for the Tigers since they tallied 46 against William & Mary on Feb. 20 of last year.
Towson shot 54.8% in the first half against the Dukes.
