BALTIMORE, Md. – Seven Towson University gymnasts were selected to the first or second All-East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Teams for the 2015 season, the league announced. In addition, Towson had 12 gymnasts earn a spot on the All-EAGL Scholastic Team.

"I am so proud of all the hard work and dedication this team has shown this season," Head Coach
Vicki Chliszczyk said. "The recognition of these All-EAGL teams speaks volumes and having seven athletes recognized is fantastic for our program. With this being only our third year back in the EAGL conference we are excited to see our athletes having such an impact and being so competitive.
"To have so many gymnasts earn academic honors is incredibly exciting for us, " Chliszcsyk continued. "We are so proud of all of their academic accomplishes. They are great examples of what the 'student-athletes' embodies."

The seven Tigers are the most selections that Towson has had in a single-season since rejoining EAGL in 2013. First Team All-EAGL on each event and in the all-around includes the top-8 ranked gymnasts (including ties) from the ten-week regular season. Second Team All-EAGL includes No. 9-16 ranked gymnasts (including ties) from the regular season.

To earn All-EAGL Scholastic honors, a gymnast must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above after the 2014 calendar GPA is factored in. Freshmen are eligible with Fall 2014 semester grades only.

Freshman
Tyra McKellar led the way for the Tigers with a total of four event honors. She was named to the first team for bars (9.860 RQS), floor (9.835 RQS) and the all-around (39.060 RQS). McKellar was also selected to the second team for beam (9.775 RQS). McKellar claimed the top spot on the All-EAGL bars team with the highest regional qualifying score in the league.

Lauren Ross and junior
Katie Sassa were the other Tigers named First Team All-EAGL. Ross earned first team for beam (9.805 RQS). Sassa was named to the first team for vault with a 9.835 RQS.

Towson had two gymnasts, senior
Samantha Lutz and junior
Vicki Vesecky, earn the top spot on the second team for bars with a matching 9.790 RQS. Junior
Lydia Thompson was also named to the bars second team with a 9.765 RQS.

Freshman
Lauren Cahalan was the final Tiger to earn an All-EAGL honor, earning a spot on the second team for floor (9.805 RQS).

Ross, Lutz, Vesecky, Sassa, Thompson, Cahalan and McKellar were named to the All-EAGL Scholastic Team as well. They were joined by seniors
Nicolette Vignola and
Janis Konkle, sophomore
Bailey Gallagher and freshmen
Noelle Harada and
Katie McGrady. The 12 Tigers is tied for the most named to the All-EAGL Scholastic Team as Towson had 12 named in 2013.

The Towson women's gymnastics team will host the EAGL championship meet on Sunday, March 22 in SECU Arena at 12 noon. Tickets can be purchased in advance
here. All seating for the event will be general admission and pre-purchased tickets will be available for pickup at Will Call.
