Tigers Host UC Davis on Wednesday Night in Unitas Stadium

Opening Draw: Looking to build on the offensive explosion from it's last game, the Towson women's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday, March 25. The Tigers welcome UC Davis for a non-conference contest set for 7 p.m. in Unitas Stadium. Audio coverage of the game is available on Towson Sports Network with Kevin Copp providing the call.

Updating the Tigers: Seven Tigers found the back of the net last time out as Towson snapped a three-game losing streak with a 16-3 win over California. Freshman attacker Erika Cavallo led the way with five goals and an assist while sophomore midfielder Samantha Brookhart added three goals and three assists. Redshirt senior attacker Andi Raymond leads the team with 15 points on nine goals and six assists. Cavallo now has a team-high 12 goals and one assist for 13 points. Junior midfielder Breanna Hamm leads the team with 27 draw controls while junior defender Emily Roth has a team-high 13 ground balls. Sophomore Kelly McQuilkin and senior Michelle Dufault lead the defensive efforts with seven caused turnovers each. Senior Kelsea Donnelly carries an 8.83 goals against average and a .453 save percentage into the action against UC Davis.

Scouting UC Davis: UC Davis comes into the game looking to snap a three-game losing streak after a 13-10 loss to Bryant on March 14. Elizabeth Landry led the Aggies with seven goals in that contest. Landry now has a team-high 24 points on a team-best 20 goals and four assists. Landry has also pulled down a team leading 28 draw controls. Melissa Kellan has contributed 12 goals and a team-high five assists for 17 points. Allie Lehner leads the defensive efforts with 13 ground balls and nine caused turnovers. Kai Murphy leads the Aggies in goal with a 9.65 goals against average and a .472 save percentage.

Towson-UC Davis Series History: Wednesday's game will be just the second all-time between the Tigers and Aggies. Last year, the Tigers opened up a 10-2 halftime lead before claiming the 15-8 victory. Ashleigh Rohrback had four goals and five assists while Alyssa Ferro added four goals. Elizabeth Landry led the Aggies with three goals and two assists.

I'm Honored: Freshman attacker Erika Cavallo picked up Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week accolades on Monday. Cavallo tallied seven goals on nine shots to go along with one assist, three draw controls and a caused turnover in two games. Cavallo became the first Tiger freshman since Meggie McNamara in 2006 to score five or more goals in a game. Cavallo is the third Tiger to be honored by the CAA this season (Kaitlyn Montalbano-rookie of the week on March 3, Andi Raymond-player of the week on March 10).

They Aren't Acting Like Underclassmen: In Saturday's win over California, the Tigers saw 15 of their 16 goals scored by either a freshman or a sophomore. The Tigers have gotten strong production from their underclassmen all season as 37 of the team's 54 goals this season have come from a freshmen or sophomore. The underclassmen have also accounted for 15 of the team's 26 assists for a total of 52 points.

Defense Clamps Down: For the second time this season the Tiger defense held an opponent to three goals in a game (at Monmouth, home versus California). It is the first ime since 2001 that the Tigers have held an opponent to three goals or less twice in the same season.

Five-for-Five: Five-for-five became an important number for the Tigers in Saturday's win over California. Freshman attacker Erika Cavallo was 5-for-5 shooting the ball and led the team with five goals. In addition the Tigers as a team were 5-for-5 on free position shots against the Golden Bears. Cavallo scored three times on free position chances while Kaitlyn Montalbano and Gabby Cha each converted free position shots. It was the most free position goals for the Tigers since Feb. 21, 2012 when they scored five free position goals in the season opener against Oregon.

I'll Take That: The Tigers were aggressive all over the field on Saturday against California. The Golden Bears committed 18 turnovers in the game and 11 of those were caused by the Tigers. It was the most caused turnovers in a game by the Tigers since they had 12 against Monmouth last year. Eight players recorded a caused turnover in the win over California. That group was led by freshman midfielder Emily Gillingham (3) and senior defender Michelle Dufault (2).

15 Makes a Difference: Towson scored a season-high 16 goals in the win over California. It was the first time since April 11 of last year that the Tigers scored 16 or more goals in a game. Since Head Coach Sonia LaMonica took over the program in 2011, the Tigers are perfect 15-0 when they score 15 or more goals in a game.

Hats Off to You: A trio of Tigers recorded a hat trick in Saturday's win over California. Freshman attacker Erika Cavallo led the way with five goals. It was her second hat trick in the last three games. Freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Montalbano and sophomore midfielder Samantha Brookhart each tallied three goals in the win and recorded their first career hat trick.

What's Next? The Tigers travel to No. 14 Penn for a 12 p.m. game on ESPN3.
