Opening Draw: Riding a two-game win streak, the Tiger women's lacrosse team faces a tough test Saturday. Towson makes the trip up I-95 to take on No. 14 Penn. Audio coverage of the game is available on Towson Sports Network with
Kevin Copp providing the call. The game will also be broadcast on ESPN3 starting at 12 p.m.
Updating the Tigers: Towson won its second straight game and moved over .500 with a 10-7 victory over UC Davis on Wednesday night. Sophomore attacker
Gabby Cha posted a career-high four goals in the win while redshirt senior attacker
Andi Raymond added a goal and two assists. Raymond leads the Tigers on the season with 18 points on 10 goals and eight assists. Cha and freshman attacker
Erika Cavallo have each posted 12 goals and an assist for 13 points. Sophomore midfielder
Samantha Brookhart has a team-high nine assists. Junior defender
Emily Roth has collected a team-best 16 ground balls while junior midfielder
Breanna Hamm has pulled down 30 draw controls. Senior defender
Michelle Dufault leads the defensive efforts with eight caused turnovers. Senior
Kelsea Donnelly carries an 8.56 goals against average and a .464 save percentage into the action.
Scouting Penn: Penn defeated Dartmouth 10-5 last Saturday and improved to 7-1 on the season.
Tory Bensen captains the Quakers' offensive charge as she has 32 points on 28 goals and four assists this season.
Nina Corcoran has 11 goals and 18 assists for 29 points.
Meg Markham has a team-high 22 draw controls and 23 caused turnovers.
Megan Kelly has collected a team-high 15 ground balls.
Lucy Ferguson has been solid in the cage posting a 7.24 goals against average and a .513 save percentage.
Towson-Penn Series History: Saturday's game will be just the third all-time between the Tigers and the Quakers. Penn has won each of the first two meeting. The Quakers claimed a 10-6 win when the two teams met the first time in 2006. Penn also posted a 15-7 victory in the 2007 meeting.
Gabby Equals Goal: Sophomore attacker
Gabby Cha came off the bench to score a career-high four goals in the second half of the win over UC Davis. Cha is the third Tiger to score four or more goals in a game this season (
Andi Raymond-twice,
Erika Cavallo). It was the fourth hat trick of Cha's career.
Reaching the Century Mark: Junior midfielder
Breanna Hamm finished with three draw controls against UC Davis. Her second one of the game gave her 100 for her career. Hamm is just the ninth player in program history to record at least 100 draw controls in her career. She has recorded five or more draw controls in a game three times this season. She needs 18 more draw controls to move into a tie for fifth place on the career draw controls list with former teammate
Katie Leech (119).
I'll Take That: For the second straight game, the Tigers were aggressive all over the field. Towson saw UC Davis committ 13 turnovers and 11 of them were caused by the Tigers. It was the second straight game the Tigers caused 11 turnovers. It was the most caused turnovers in a game by the Tigers since they had 12 against Monmouth last year. Nine players recorded a caused turnover in the win over UC Davis. That group was led by junior defender
Emily Roth who had three.
10 Goals is Key: Since Head Coach
Sonia LaMonica took the reins of the Towson women's lacrosse program for the start of the 2011 season, the number 10 on the scoreboard has become a key stat. Since the start of 2011, Towson is 41-4 when it scores 10 or more goals in a game, that includes a 3-1 mark this season. When the Tigers hold an opponent to nine or less goals they are 36-9, that also includes a 3-1 mark this season.
Reaching for the Big 1-0-0: Redshirt senior attacker
Andi Raymond scored her 10th goal of the season and 95th of her career on Wednesday night against UC Davis. Raymond needs just two more goals to move into the top 10 for career goals at Towson. She also needs five more goals to become the 10th player in program history to score 100 or more goals in her career.
We'll Take the Freebies: Senior midfielder
Paige Duncan and sophomore attacker
Gabby Cha both scored free position goals for the Tigers in the win over UC Davis. It was the third straight game and fourth time this season the Tigers have scored two or more free position goals in a game. Towson is 3-1 in those contests. Since the start of the 2014 season the Tigers are 7-4 when they score two or more free position goals in a game.
What's Next? Following Saturday's game, the Tigers return home to host crosstown rival Loyola on Wednesday, April 1 at 7 p.m.
