Tigers Travel to Georgetown on Saturday

Opening Draw: The Towson women's lacrosse team makes it second road trip of the season when it heads down to Washington, D.C. to take on Georgetown on Saturday, March 7. Audio coverage of the game is available on Towson Sports Network.

Updating the Tigers: After a pair of weather postponements, the Tigers opened their 2015 season with a 4-3 comeback win at Monmouth last Saturday. Towson trailed 3-1 at the half but shut Monmouth out in the second half while scoring three times for the win. Sophomore attacker Gabby Cha had a goal and an assist in the win while redshirt senior attacker Andi Raymond tallied a pair of assists. Junior midfielder Breanna Hamm helped the Tigers control the pace of play as she won five draw controls. Hamm was one of three Tigers to pick up three ground balls in the game. Senior defender Michelle Dufault recorded a pair of caused turnovers in the game. Senior Kelsea Donnelly was solid in goal making six saves while just surrendering the three goals. The Tigers currently lead the nation in scoring defense after surrendering the three goals in the opener.

Scouting Georgetown: After suffering losses in its first two games of the season, Georgetown picked up an 11-9 win over George Mason on Wednesday. The Hoyas got three goals and an assist from Corinne Etchison in the win. Colleen Lovett has tallied four goals and three assists for seven points this season while Caroline Tarzian has a team-high five goals. Adrianne Devine has six ground balls and five caused turnovers while Megan Marinelli has a team-high six draw controls. Maddy Fisher has started all three games in goal and has posted a 13.36 goals against average and a .341 save percentage.

Towson-Georgetown Series History: Saturday's game will be the 20th meeting all-time between the Tigers and Georgetown. The Hoyas lead the match-up 10-9. Georgetown had won 10 straight in the series before the Tigers claimed a 14-10 win when the two schools met in Towson last year. In that game, Kelsea Donnelly made a career-high 14 saves while Andi Raymond had four goals and three assists.

I'm Honored: Freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Montalbano was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week on Tuesday. Montalbano scored the game-winning goal in the Monmouth game. She also added three ground balls and used her speed to help the Tigers convert 14-of-16 clear attempts.

Defense Clamps Down: Defense has been a key for Head Coach Sonia LaMonica and the Tigers and that was evident in the season opener at Monmouth. The Tigers shut out Monmouth in the second half. Towson held the Hawks to just six shots and saw the home team make 10 turnovers. It was the first time since the first half of a game on April 5, 2013 at George Mason that the Tigers shut out an opponent for 30 minutes. It was also the first time since 2012 that the Tigers held an opponent to three goals or less in a game.

Don't I Know You: A look at the Georgetown sidelines will reveal a familiar face to Tiger fans. Former two-sport Tiger athlete Nick Williams is an assistant coach with the Hoyas' program. He helped the Tiger men's lacrosse team win a pair of CAA Championships in his career. He also ran for nearly 2,000 yards during his Tigerfootball career. Williams served as an assistant coach for the Tiger women's lacrosse team during the 2010 season when the Tigers made an at-large appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Miss Assist: Redshirt senior attacker Andi Raymond had a pair of assists in the season opener at Monmouth. That gives her 64 assists for her Tiger career. Raymond passed former Tiger great Hillary Fratzke for fourth place on the career assists list at Towson. She needs six more assists to move into the top three for career assists. The career assists record at Towson is held by Raymond's former teammate Ashleigh Rohrback, who had 91 helpers.

Nifty 50: Senior defender Michelle Dufault had a pair of caused turnovers in the season opener against Monmouth. That gave Dufault 50 caused turnovers for her career. She needs just three more caused turnovers to break into the top 10 for career caused turnovers at Towson.

What's Next? Towson is back in action on Wednesday, March 11 when it plays its home opener. The Tigers will welcome No. 1 Maryland, the defending national champion to Unitas Stadium for a 7 p.m. game.
