However, the Tigers have won five straight against the Dukes including a 12-11 win in overtime in last year's CAA Championship game. In that contest
Michelle Gildea scored with 35 seconds to play in overtime to lift the Tigers to the victory.
Andi Raymond had three goals and two assists in the win while
Stephanie Finley led JMU with three goals.
I'm Honored: Senior defender
Michelle Dufault was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. She led the Tigers with eight caused turnovers, five ground balls and a draw control in three games last week. It was the first time in her career, Dufault collected player of the week accolades. She is the fourth Tiger to be honored by the CAA this year (
Andi Raymond - player of the week,
Erika Cavallo and
Kaitlyn Montalbano - rookie of the week).
It Should Be a Close One: The Tigers and Dukes have played some close battles in recent history. Four of the last five contests between the two schools have been decided by one goal (only one not to is Towson's 16-10 win at JMU in 2013). Three of those five contests have required at least one overtime period to decide a winner, including both games last year (Towson won 12-11 in double ot in the regular season and 12-11 in overtime in the CAA Championship game).
Donnelly Closes in on 400: Senior
Kelsea Donnelly had eight saves in Sunday's double overtime contest against Hofstra. That raised her season total to 96 and her career saves total to 397. She currently ranks 10th in Towson history for career saves and 13th among Division I active career leaders. Donnelly needs just three more saves to become the 10th player in Towson history with 400 career saves.
Overtime is Our Time: Sunday's double overtime game was the Tigers' second of the season. Despite being 0-2 this season in overtime, the Tigers have found plenty of success when forced to play an extra session. Towson is 15-10 all-time when it plays overtime. The longest overtime game is school history was a four overtime victory over James Madison during the 1993 season. Towson is 5-1 all-time against the Dukes when the game goes to overtime.
That Was Quick: The Tigers showed off their speed getting to the net in Sunday's game against Hofstra. Senior midfielder
Paige Duncan scored her 11th goal of the season at 20:47 of the first half tying the game at 1-1. Redshirt senior attacker
Andi Raymond won the ensuing draw and passed it to sophomore midfielder
Samantha Brookhart who scored with 20:40 showing on the clock. The goals which came just seven seconds apart were the fastest two goals by the Tigers this season and fastest since Raymond and
Taylor Moore scored just 10 seconds apart last year against Stony Brook in the NCAA Tournament.
What's Next? Following Friday's game, the Tigers remain on the road to visit William & Mary on Sunday, April 19 at 1 p.m. Towson then returns home to host Johns Hopkins on Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m. The game against Hopkins will be the regular season finale and the team will honor its eight seniors before the game.
