Tigers Play Host to CAA Newcomer Elon on Friday Night

Opening Draw: After playing four straight non-conference contests, the Tiger women's lacrosse team resumes Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action on Friday, April 3. The Tigers welcome CAA newcomer Elon to Unitas Stadium for a 7 p.m. game. Audio coverage of the game is available on Towson Sports Network with Kevin Copp providing the call.

Updating the Tigers: Towson battled hard early but ultimately fell to No. 16 Loyola last time out. Redshirt senior attacker Andi Raymond had a pair of goals and a career-high six draw controls while freshman midfielder Emily Gillingham tallied two goals against the Greyhounds. Raymond is the team leader in points (23) and goals scored (14) and ranks second on the team with nine assists. Sophomore midfielder Samantha Brookhart has a team-best 11 assists to go along with four goals for 15 points. Junior midfielder Breanna Hamm has pulled down a team-high 31 draw controls while junior defender Emily Roth leads the squad with 20 ground balls. Senior defender Michelle Dufault has 12 caused turnovers. Senior Kelsea Donnelly has a 9.68 goals against average and a .429 save percentage.

Scouting Elon: The Phoenix enter the contest against the Tigers having won four straight. Last time out they were tied with Liberty to start the second half but scored six straight goals in a 20 minute span and claimed a 13-8 victory. Stephanie Asher led Elon with five goals and two assists in the win. Asher now has a team-high 40 points on 33 goals and seven assists. Sloane Kessler has contributed 14 goals and 15 assists for 29 points. Molly Garrigan has been strong in the circle recording 23 draw controls. Alexis Zadjura has posted nine caused turnovers. Rachel Ramirez has a 9.75 goals against average and a .440 save percentage. Ramirez is also the team-leader in ground balls with 32.

Towson-Elon Series History: Friday's game will be the first ever meeting between the Tigers and Phoenix. Elon joined the CAA prior to the start of the 2014-15 school year. The Phoenix went 4-1 in the Atlantic Sun conference last season, it was their first with a program.

Reaching for the Big 1-0-0: Redshirt senior attacker Andi Raymond scored a pair of goals against Loyola on Wednesday night. That lifted her season total to 14 goals and her career total to 99 goals. Raymond moved into 10th place on the career goals scored list at Towson. She also needs one more goal to become the 10th player in program history to score 100 or more goals in her career. She will be the first Tiger to reach the mark since Nikki Marcinik did so in 2010.

Gillingham Goes to Goal: Freshman midfielder Emily Gillingham has shown an ability to get to the cage during the first nine games of the season for the Tigers. Gillingham scored a pair of goals in Wednesday's contest against Loyola. She has now scored a goal in six straight games for the Tigers and holds the longest current goal scored streak by a Tiger this season. It also was the third time this season Gillingham has scored two goals in a game.

Dishing out the Helpers: Sophomore midfielder Samantha Brookhart recorded an assist on the Tigers' first goal against Loyola. It was Brookhart's 11th of the season and fourth straight game that she dished out a helper. Brookhart enters play this weekend ranked fifth in the CAA while averaging 1.22 assists per game.

Just the Way We Drew it Up: A strong second half on the draws allowed Towson to outdraw Loyola, 15-7. Eight Tigers had at least one draw control in the game. Leading the efforts for Towson against the Greyhounds was redshirt senior attacker Andi Raymond who had six while freshman midfielder Maddie Tribbe had two. Towson has out drawn its opponent in seven of nine games this season and registered 109 draw controls to their opponents' 72 this season.

What's Next? Following Friday's game, the Tigers head to UMBC for a 12 p.m. game on Tuesday, April 7. That game is being made up after bad weather forced it to be postponed in February.
