Tigers to Face JMU on Sunday in CAA Title Game

Opening Draw: The Tiger women's lacrosse team makes its fifth straight appearance in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship game on Sunday, May 3. The fourth seed Tigers will battle No. 2 James Madison at 1 p.m. for the title. Audio coverage of the game is available on Towson Sports Network with Kevin Copp providing the call. In addition, American Sports Network will be broadcasting the game on TV.

Updating the Tigers: Towson scored a pair of goals while two men down and rallied for a 7-3 overtime comeback victory over No. 1 Hofstra in the CAA semifinals Friday afternoon. Senior midfielder Paige Duncan scored the game-winner while redshirt senior attacker Andi Raymond had five points on three goals and two assists. Raymond leads the Tigers on the season with 60 points on 35 goals and 25 assists. Sophomore midfielder Samantha Brookhart has contributed 11 goals and 19 assists for 30 points. Junior defender Emily Roth has a team-high 35 ground balls while junior midfielder Breanna Hamm has a team-high 49 draw controls. CAA Defensive Player of the Year senior Michelle Dufault anchors the defensive efforts with 24 caused turnovers. Senior Kelsea Donnelly carries an 8.28 goals against average and a .492 save percentage into the championship game.

Scouting James Madison: James Madison advanced to the CAA Championship game with a 10-7 win over Delaware in the semifinals on Friday night. The Dukes got three goals and an assist from Jaci Gordon in the win. Betsy Angel leads the Dukes' offensive efforts with 64 points on 45 goals and 19 assists. Stephanie Finley is tied for the team lead in goals scored (45) and has contributed 12 assists for 57 points. Finley has also pulled down a team-high 52 draw controls. Lexi Cross leads the defense with 25 caused turnovers. Schylar Healy brings a 9.28 goals against average and a .463 save percentage into the game.

Towson-James Madison Series History: Sunday's meeting will be the 36th all-time between the Tigers and Dukes. It will also be the fifth meeting between the two in the CAA playoffs. James Madison leads the all-time series 23-12. The Tigers had won five straight in the series before falling in the regular season meeting in Harrisonburg this year. The Tigers defeated the Dukes in the 2014 and 2012 CAA Championship games for their playoff wins over James Madison. The Dukes defeated the Tigers to capture the 2011 CAA title and in the 2006 CAA semifinals.

Punch Your Ticket for the Big Dance: The Tigers look to defend their back-to-back-to-back CAA titles when they face James Madison in Sunday's championship game. The Tigers are making their fifth straight appearance in the CAA title game and eighth overall. The Tigers will be looking for their seventh CAA title overall (2005, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2014).

Knocking Off Number One: It's the first time since 2009 that the number one seed has not advanced to the CAA Championship game since 2009. That year, Towson as the fourth seed defeated number two Delaware for the CAA title.

This Looks Familiar: For the second straight year and fourth time overall, the Tigers will meet James Madison in the CAA Championship game. Towson needed overtime last year to claim the title and has now won each of the last two meetings in the CAA Championship game (2014, 2012).

Perfect 10: A win over James Madison on Sunday would give Towson it's 10th victory of the season. If Towson can reach the mark it would be the fifth straight season under Head Coach Sonia LaMonica that the Tigers reached the mark and eighth straight season overall. The school record for wins in a singleseason is 16 and was set by the 2012 Tiger squad.

Let's Get Defensive: Senior defender Michelle Dufault isn't the only Tiger to earn Defensive Player of the Year accolades this season. Senior Tyler White was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Year on the men's side on Wednesday night. It is just the second time in league history that a school has had the men's and women's lacrosse defensive player of the year in the same season (Hofstra - 2005, Brett Moyer and Bridget Eder).

What's Next? The winner of Sunday's game will advance to the NCAA Tournament with the league's automatic bid. The bracket will be announced Sunday at 9 p.m. on NCAA.com
