Field Hockey Opens Home Slate With St. Francis, Lock Haven

UPDATING THE TIGERS: Towson opens its home slate against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Friday evening and Lock Haven on Sunday afternoon. Game times are set for 6 p.m. and 12 p.m., respectively, at Unitas Stadium.

Freshman Devon Hake scored her first collegiate goal in the Tigers' season opener at St. Joseph's. Sophomore Megan Boyle has 18 saves on the season.

SERIES HISTORY: The Tigers have faced St. Francis six times with the Red Flash holding a 5-1 advtange in the series. In last year's match-up, St. Francis earned a 5-1 victory over the Tigers.

This will be the sixth meeting between Towson and Lock Haven. The Lady Eagles have won four of the five previous matchups including a 7-0 victory last year.

SCOUTING ST. FRANCIS (PA.): Saint Francis enters Friday's contest with an 0-2 record. The Red Flash dropped its season opener to Ohio State 2-0 before falling 4-1 against Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) member William & Mary. Freshman Irene Fritschy scored the lone goal for St. Francis while goalkeeper Samantha Zeiders made eight saves over the two contests.

SCOUTING LOCK HAVEN: Lock Haven (2-0) will travel to Cornell on Friday before facing the Tigers on Sunday. The Lady Eagles shut out William & Mary 3-0 to open the season before earning a 2-1 victory over Ohio. Junior Stephanie Whiteman earned Atlantic-10 Player of the Week honors after recording a goal and two assists in the Lady Eagle's opening weekend. Senior Maddie Wagenfeld earned the shutout against the Tribe, making two saves.

OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN: As seniors Heather Jenney and Kelsey Jenkens and junior Morgan Skavdahl have been selected to serve as team captains in 2015.

DEFENSIVE DYNAMOS: The Tigers have seen defensive saves made by two players so far this season. Senior Stacey Mackintosh and freshman Erika McKay have both recorded defensive saves.

SAVES, SAVES, SAVES: Sophomore Megan Boyle is tied for the lead among CAA goalkeepers in saves (18) and saves per game (9.00). She also ranks third in the conference in save percentage (.692).

NO TIME LIKE THE FIRST TIME: Freshmen Devon Hake, Deirdre Korkes, Erika McKay, Katie McNeel and Marlee McGinness stepped on the field for the first time in the Tigers' opening weekend. Hake, McKay and McNeel earned the starts in both games.

UP NEXT: The Tigers remain at home to close out a four-game homestand with Longwood visiting for a 6 p.m. game on Friday, Sept. 11. Towson hosts Lehigh on Sunday, Sept. 13 for a 12 p.m. game.
