SERIES HISTORY: Towson welcomes a fairly new rival to SECU Arena for Friday's game. Fridays's contest will pair the Tigers and Phoenix against each other for just the third time ever.
Elon swept the season series last year, earning a 58-43 win at home and then following it up with an 84-70 win in SECU Arena.
I'LL TAKE THAT: The Tigers have made use of their quick hands, especially in the last four games. The Tigers have 47 steals in the last four games, including a season-high 14 swipes on Sunday against UNCW. It was the most steals by a Tiger squad in a single-game since they had 15 against LIU Brooklyn during the 2013-14 season. Entering play this weekend, the Tigers rank fourth in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) while averaging 8.1 steals per game. During the last four games, 11 Tigers have recorded at least one steal. That group is led by junior guard
Raven Bankston who has 13 during that time period. Bankston, who leads the team with 31 steals on the season, enters play this weekend ranked second in the CAA while averaging 2.2 steals per game.
GOING DEEP: Towson senior guard
Dominique Johnson enters play this weekend with a chance to cement her name at the top of the record books. Johnson has connected on 32 three-pointers this season which gives her 188 career three-pointers, which ranks second in school history. She needs three more three-pointers to break the school record for career three-pointers. The current school record for three-pointers made is 190 set by
Mia Chapman. Johnson hit nine three-pointers at Minnesota in December, setting a school record in the process. It was the second time this season and eighth time in her career that she has made five or more three-pointers in a single-game. Her 71 triples last season ranked second in single-season history at Towson.
CLEARING THE GLASS: Towson freshman forward
Brittany Tarr had a big day on the glass for the Tigers against UNCW. Tarr registered three offensive and five defensive rebounds for eight total boards. That matched her season/career-high set earlier this year at North Florida.
MISS ASSIST: The Tigers have proven to have multiple threats running the offense this season. Five Tigers have recorded 15 or more assists this season and three of those players have 30 or more assists. Senior
Dominique Johnson leads the team with 35 helpers while sophomore
Breonn Hughey has 34 assists this season. Junior
Raven Bankston rounds out the group with 30 assists. Johnson's 35 helpers this season gives her 296 assists for her career. She needs six more assists to become the 10th player in program history with 300 career assists. Hughey's 34 assists this year have given her 167 career assists. She needs 26 assists to move into the top 20 for career assists.
SHE'LL TAKE THE CHARITY: Towson senior guard
Dominique Johnson has been a strong shooter from the foul line this season for the Tigers. Johnson went 2-for-2 from the charity stripe on Friday night against William & Mary and has now made 36-of-40 from the foul line this season. Entering play this weekend, Johnson ranked first in the CAA and 10th in the nation with a 90.0% free throw percentage.
UP NEXT: Towson hits the road for the first time since Jan. 3 as the Tigers make the short trip up I-95 to visit Delaware on Sunday, Jan. 17 at 2 p.m.
