Field Hockey Hits the Road for Pair of Nonconference Games

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University field hockey team hits the road for a pair of nonconference games this weekend, traveling first to Virginia Commonwealth University and then Princeton University.

The Tigers and Rams are scheduled for a 5 p.m. tilt on Friday. Sunday will be the battle of the Tigers as Towson and Princeton faceoff at noon.

Game Coverage
Both games this weekend will have live stats. Sunday's game will also feature a video stream available for a fee, courtesy of the Ivy League Network.

The Series: VCU (4-8)
Friday's meeting will be the 20th all-time between the Tigers and Rams. VCU holds a 14-5 lead in the series, winning the last three meetings. Towson earned its last win over the Rams in 2011, a 3-1 decision in Richmond, Virginia. Four meetings between the Tigers and Rams have gone to overtime with both teams winning two apiece. Of the 19 previous games played, 14 of those have been decided by two goals or less.

The Series: Princeton (7-5)
This will be the first meeting between the two Tiger squads, despite Princeton introducing the sport in 1971. Princeton has played against only one other team from the state of Maryland, the University of Maryland. Towson has faced Ivy League schools six times, recording a 2-4 mark against teams from that conference.

  • Towson would get its third win of the season, the most wins in a season since Towson won 10 games in 2011.
  • Get its first win over the Rams since the 2011 season.
  • Defeat the Rams at Cary Street Field for the first time since 2011.
  • Earn its first win on the road since a 3-2 win at Longwood in 2014.

With a Win Sunday
  • Towson would earn the first win in the series between the two Tigers.
  • Get its first win over an Ivy League team since defeating Penn 2-1 in 2011.
