TOWSON, Md. – The third week of spring practice came to a close Saturday evening for the Towson men's lacrosse team as the No. 16 Tigers took to the field in a pair of scrimmages.
Saturday morning, Towson lined up with a pair of outside opponents, Hobart and Bucknell, for the first time this spring. In a pair of defensive showcases, Towson topped Hobart 4-2, but was edged 5-4 against the Bison. Bucknell bested Hobart 7-2 in the second game of the day.
Four different Tigers chipped in for goals against the Statesmen in the first game of the day.
Joe Seider,
Ryan Drenner,
Brian Bolewicki and
JP Crowley scored, while
Ian Kirby tallied an assist. Towson split time in goal, with third-team All-American
Tyler White making three saves in his 30 minutes, followed by seven saves from
Matt Hoy in the back half. Hoy did not allow a goal during his share of cage time.
Alec Burckley had a solid outing at the X, winning six of his nine faceoffs.
The goal getters against the Bison were a familiar crowd, with Drenner and Seider scoring, along with
Spencer Parks and
Brendan Sunday, who notched an assist as well. The Tigers once again split time in goal as White made sevens tops in the first half, followed by another six saves from
Josh Miller.
Following the scrimmages, the fans and team, along with alumni and their families, headed to the Radisson North Baltimore for the annual Face-Off Night, presented by Tessemae's All Natural.
The evening began with a cocktail hour and a silent auction, followed by Master of Ceremonies and voice of the Tigers Spiro Morekas recapping the 2015 campaign and a look ahead to the upcoming season. Director of athletics
Tim Leonard spoke to the group as well, addressing the department's plans for growth in the coming years.
A buffet-style dinner was served, followed by the CSO of Tessemae's All Natural, Brian Vetter '08, as the keynote speaker. Vetter, who with his mother's salad dressing recipe and his brothers, founded Tessemae's All Natural in 2009 and have expanded the brand on a national level. Vetter spoke to his time and recruitment to Towson University, mentioning that there are no preconceived notions of what someone can do with their degree from the University, comparing it to a blank canvas, ready to be painted however someone wants it to be.

Shawn Nadelen then spoke in advance of his fifth season guiding the program, mentioning that all the team accomplished is in the past as the team gets ready for another weekend of scrimmages this weekend and the regular season.
After coach Nadelen, alumni from all generations of Towson University men's lacrosse joined the newcomers to the program on stage. After the fall and early spring workouts, coach Nadelen made mention that these newcomers had earned their stripes and had their new Towson jerseys presented to them by generations past.
The Tigers return to the field this Saturday for a pair of scrimmages in College Park, Maryland. Towson opens the day with No. 15 Harvard at 10 a.m., followed by the host Terps at 2 p.m.
Towson kicks off the 2016 campaign on Saturday, Feb. 13 with Mercer University. Opening faceoff is set for noon at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium.
