No. 18 Tigers Visit Hofstra on Friday Night

Opening Draw: The No. 18 Towson women's lacrosse team plays its final two road games of the regular season this weekend. The action kicks off on Friday, April 15 when the Tigers head to Hempstead, New York. Updating the Tigers: Towson battled for its third straight win, an 11-9 victory at Elon on Sunday. Freshman attacker Carly Tellekamp led the way with three goals while sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Montalbano had two goals and four assists. Montalbano has posted a team-high 32 points on 19 goals and a team-best 13 assists this season. Tellekamp has contributed a team-high 22 goals and three assists for 25 points. Seven Tigers have scooped up 10 or more ground balls this season and that group is led by sophomore defender Tianna Wallpher, who has 21. Wallpher also leads the team with 15 caused turnovers. Senior midfielder Breanna Hamm, has pulled down a team-high 23 draw controls. Freshman Angie Benson brings a 6.62 goals against average and a .460 save percentage into this weekend's action.

Scouting Hofstra: Hofstra had a two-game win streak snapped with a 20-8 loss to James Madison last time out. Lindsay Scott had a game-high six goals for the Pride in the contest. Carolyn Carrera tallied a game-best seven draw controls along with two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Scott leads Hofstra on the season with 45 points on 41 goals and four assists. She picked up her second straight Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week award on Monday.  Current CAA Rookie of the Week Lexi Lenaghan has contributed 11 goals and five assists for 21 points. Carrera has pulled down a team-high 36 draw controls. Shelby Milne leads the team in ground balls with 17 and caused turnovers with 16. Alexis Greene and Maddie Fields have split time in goal this season. Greene has played in eight games while Fields has seen time in seven and has a 12.92 goals against average and a .310 save percentage.

Towson-Hofstra Series History: Friday's game will be the 36th meeting all-time between the Tigers and Pride. Towson leads the series 22-13 after the two squads split their two meetings last season. The Pride earned a 8-7 double overtime win in the regular season. However the Tigers got their revenge in the CAA Tournament as they scored two goals while two-men down in overtime for a 7-3 victory over the No. 1 seed Hofstra in the first round.
 
National News: Towson sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Montalbano was named the ILWomen.com StringKing National Player of the Week on Tuesday. Montalbano had two goals and a career-high four assists for six points in the win over Elon. She also added four caused turnovers, four ground balls and two draw controls. Montalbano received 46% (5,181 votes) of the national vote to be honored. She is the second Tiger to receive national recognition this season (Carly Tellekamp-national rookie of the week on Feb. 16).  

Hats Off to You: Freshman attacker Carly Tellekamp led the Tigers with three goals in the win at Elon. Tellekamp posted her second-straight hat trick and team-leading fourth of the year. Tellekamp is one of three Tigers to record a hat trick this season (Tellekamp-4, Kaitlyn Montalbano-3, Emily Gillingham-2).

In the Polls: Coming off the win over Elon, the Tigers maintained their foothold in the national rankings released on Monday. In the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll, the Tigers were slotted at No. 18. The Tigers held steady for the second-straight week at No. 18 in the ILWomen.com Media poll and were No. 20 in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine poll.

Just the Way We Drew It up: Senior midfielder Breanna Hamm pulled down a season-high five draw controls in Sunday's contest against Elon. That raised her season total to 23 draw controls and her career total to 146 draw controls. Hamm moved past Stephanie Howell (141, 2001-04) and into sole possession of third place on the career draw controls list at Towson. She needs 22 more to move into a tie for second.

Super Six: Sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Montalbano posted her third six-point performance of the season at Elon (2g, 4a). She also recorded six-point games against UMBC (4g, 2a) and Stetson (3g, 3a). Montalbano is the first Tiger to have three six-point performances in the same season since Andi Raymond did so during the 2014 season.

What's Next? Towson wraps up its four game road trip by visiting Drexel on Sunday afternoon for a 1 p.m. game in Philadelphia.
