TOWSON, Md. – Towson and Villanova, a pair of teams with 58 combined victories between them will meet in a non-conference showdown Tuesday afternoon at the Tiger Softball Stadium beginning at 2:30 p.m.
For Towson (30-13 overall) this begins a season-ending eight-game homestand. The Tigers will also host conference foes Delaware and UNCW over the next 13 days. Towson dropped two of three games at Charleston over the weekend while Villanova took two of three from Georgetown.
QUICK LOOK AT TOWSON: Shelby Stracher leads Towson in home runs (14), RBI's (52), hits (54), runs (41), and batting average (.432). She does lead the CAA in homeruns, average, slugging percentage, and RBI's.
Holiday Cahill has 34 RBI's and
Brook Miko has 36. Miko, who has a .330 batting average, hit a two-run homer in the series finale against Charleston on Sunday. As a team, Towson has slugged 52 homers. On the pitching side.
Blakely Thrower has a 7-1 record on the year with an ERA of 1.49 in 44.2 inning pitched.
Ambar Hickman (11-4 2.99 ERA) and
Megan Dejter (12-8, 62 strikeouts) have been formidable forces in the circle for the Tigers.
BEASTS OF THE BIG EAST: Towson is 4-0 against the Big East this season. In addition to its three wins against Georgetown, the Tigers also beat Seton Hall, 4-2, on Feb. 19 in the Coastal Carolina Kickin Chicken Classic.
ABOUT VILLANOVA: Members of the Big East Conference, the Wildcats are 28-14 overall. They have won 17 of their last 18 games.
Jordan Prutzer had an excellent weekend in the circle as she went 2-0 to improve her record to 7-1 on the season. She was named to the BIG EAST Weekly honor roll Monday for her efforts. Prutzer gave up just two runs total on Saturday and Sunday while striking out nine batters. On the year, Prutzer leads the team in ERA at 2.04 in 55 innings pitched. Junior third baseman
Lauren Herschberg had solid past week at the plate earning BIG EAST Weekly honor roll honors for the fourth time this season. The Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. native was 6-for-17 (.353) in five games with two homeruns, four RBI's, and a slugging percentage of .813. Herschberg is tops on Villanova in average at .380 (8th in BIG EAST), hits with 54, and is tied for the team lead in doubles with 10.
ON-DECK: Towson hosts Delaware in its penultimate home weekend series on Saturday. The Interstate 95 rivals play a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. Saturday and conclude the three-game set with a 1 p.m. single game Sunday afternoon.
