Updating the Tigers: The Tigers punched their ticket for the 2016 NCAA Tournament with a 14-6 win over James Madison in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship game. CAA Rookie of the Year Natalie Sulmonte matched her career-high with four goals while CAA Tournament Most Oustanding Player Breanna Hamm had two goals, five ground balls and four caused turnovers. Sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Montalbano powers the Tiger offense with 33 goals and 20 assists for 53 points. Sulmonte and sophomore midfielder Emily Gillingham have 32 and 30 points, respectively. Sulmonte has 27 goals and five assists while Gillingham has contributed 22 goals and eight assists. Ten Tigers have contributed 10 or more ground balls this season and that group is led by Hamm who has 32. Sophomore defender Tianna Wallpher leads the team with 26 caused turnovers. Three Tigers have 30 or more draw controls and that group is led by Hamm with 42. Freshman Angie Benson carries a 6.73 goals against average and a .455 save percentage into this game.

Scouting Old Dominion: Old Dominion secured its NCAA Tournament berth with an 11-10 overtime win over Detroit in the Atlantic Sun (A-Sun) Championship game. Megan Cameron scored the game-winning goal with under a minute remaining in overtime. Ashmore Standing, who was named the ILWomen.com StringKing National Player of the Week on Wednesday, leads the Monarchs with 81 points. Standing's 66 goals are the best on the team while she has added 15 assists. Morgan Marrale has added 30 goals and 22 assists this season. Connor Carson has pulled down a team-high 67 draw controls while Missy Koscinski has a team-best 27 caused turnovers. Maggi Buckley enters the tournament with an 8.86 goals against average and a .439 save percentage. She has also collected a team-high 45 ground balls.

Towson University-Old Dominion Series History: Friday's game will pit a pair of former CAA foes against each other. The two squads met every year from 2002 to 2013 when both were members of the CAA. The Tigers lead the series 7-5 and have won each of the last four meetings including a 16-9 win during the 2013 season. Senior Alyssa Saxon made six saves in the second half while Ashmore Standing led the Monarchs with two goals, three ground balls and two caused turnovers in that game. This will be the first ever postseason meeting between the two teams.

Let's Dance: Towson University is making its eighth appearance in the NCAA Tournament and fourth in the last five years under head coach Sonia LaMonica. The Tigers advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time as an automatic qualifer (2005, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016). The Tigers received an at-large bid during the 2010 campaign. The Tigers will be looking for their first ever NCAA Tournament win as the program is currently 0-7 in those games.

It's Good to Be Home: The Tigers received an unexpected advantage by getting to play at home one more time. No. 7 Penn was the highest seed in the quadrant but was unable to host due to a scheduling conflict. The Tigers are 6-2 at home this year and have outscored opponents 77-53 in the friendly confines of Unitas Stadium this season. Sophomores Kaitlyn Montalbano and Emily Gillingham have combined for 40 goals at home this season. The Tigers have won at least five games at home in five of the last six years under head coach Sonia LaMonica.

Tianna Equals Take Away: Sophomore First Team All-CAA defender Tianna Wallpher has been a force defensively in her first season with the black and gold. Wallpher recorded a caused turnover in the CAA Championship game, raising her season total to 26 caused turnovers. Wallpher ranks 10th in single-season history at Towson for caused turnovers. She is the first Tiger since Alexa Demski in 2011 to move into that list. She ranks third in the CAA while averaging 1.39 caused turnovers per game.

Just the Way We Drew It Up: Senior midfielder Breanna Hamm had a draw control against James Madison to raise her season total to 42 draw controls and her career total to 165 draw controls. Hamm currently sits in third place on the career draw controls list at Towson University. She needs three more draw controls to move into a tie for second on the career draw controls list at Towson University (Becky Trumbo - 168).

Defense Stands Tall: The Tigers' defense has been a key piece of Towson University's success this season and that was on display in the CAA Tournament. The Tigers surrendered just a combined 12 goals between the two games. Towson University has held 15 of its 18 opponents to single-digits on the scoreboard. Ten of those opponents were held to six goals or less. It's the first time in school history that the Tigers have held 15 or more opponents to single-digit goals and that Towson has held 10 or more opponents to six goals or less in a season. The Tigers entered play this weekend with the fifth best scoring defense in the nation, 6.61 goals per game.

And the streak goes on... Seven Tigers carry a point streak into Friday's game. Freshman midfielder Natalie Sulmonte has recorded a point in 10 straight games. Junior midfielder Samantha Brookhart, sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Montalbano each have recorded a point in eight-straight games. Redshirt junior attacker Alyssa Ferro has tallied a point now in seven-straight contests. Sophomore midfielder Emilly Gillingham has a point in five-straight games while sophomore attacker Jenna Kerr has recorded a point in three consecutive contests. Junior attacker Gabby Cha scored her first three goals of the season over the weekend and has a point in back-to-back games.

What's Next? The winner of Friday's contest advances to Sunday's second round and will face the winner of No. 7 Penn and Wagner at 12 p.m.
