Tigers Welcome Hofstra to SECU Arena on Friday Night

Back to Action: Looking to build on the momentum of Sunday's win over James Madison, the Towson University women's basket ball team is back in action on Friday, Jan. 13. The Tigers play host to the Hofstra Pride at 7 p.m. in SECU Arena. Links to live stats and the video feed can be found on the schedule page of TowsonTigers.com. Towson Sports Network's Ben Rosenbaum and Caleb Studivant will have the call of the action starting at 6:45 p.m. Fans can also follow the Tigers on Twitter (@Towson_WBB) for updates.

Welcome Youth Basketball Players: Friday night is youth basketball night in SECU Arena and all kids who are 12 and under wearing a youth basketball jersey can receive a $5 ticket to the game.

Series History: Towson renews a close rivalry with Hofstra when the Pride come to SECU Arena. It will be the 62nd meeting all-time between the two schools and Hofstra holds a 32-29 edge in the match-up. Hofstra took both meetings last year and has now won four straight in the series. Guard Raven Bankston averaged 17 points per game last year against the Pride, while center Daijha Thomas has a team-best 23 rebounds in four games versus Hofstra.

It Takes a Mountain (Aka Total Team Effort): Towson demonstrated on Sunday afternoon that good things can happen when the whole team contributes. The Tigers saw nine of the ten players who appeared in the  game score at least two points. Leading that group was senior guard Raven Bankston, redshirt junior guard Raine Bankston and sophomore guard Sianni Martin. That trio each scored a team-high 11 points. Towson also had nine of the ten players grab at least one rebound in the contest. Junior forward Mary Cuevas corralled a season-high 13 rebounds against the Dukes to lead the way.

Clearing The Glass: Towson has turned up the intensity in the rebounding battle and the result has been the Tigers having two of their best rebounding games of the season. After grabbing a season-high 50 rebounds at Northeastern on Friday, Towson had 45 rebounds against James Madison. All 10 Tigers that have seen time in the last two games have recorded at least one rebound during that stretch. Junior forward Mary Cuevas and redshirt junior forward Jordyn Smith are averaging a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game over the last two contests. Cuevas pulled down a season-high 13 rebounds against the Dukes while Smith had a career-high 12 boards against the Huskies.

Let's Make It Raine: Towson redshirt junior guard Raine Bankston turned in a huge performance in the win over James Madison. Bankston tallied 11 points to go along with eight rebounds, seven steals and four assists. Her 11 points were tied for the team-lead and it was the sixth time this season she has scored in double figures. Her eight rebounds all came on the defensive end and tied her season and career-high. The seven steals were a career-high for Bankston. Her four assists marked the 11th time this season she has recorded multiple assists in a contest.

I'll Take That: Towson continues to find ways to get its hands on the ball. The Tigers had 10 steals against James Madison on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers have now recorded double digit steals 10 times this season. Last year the Tigers recorded double digit steals 11 times in 31 games. The Tigers enter play this weekend leading the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) while averaging 11.2 steals per game. The Tigers rank 28th nationally in that category. Senior guard Raven Bankston, who had a steal against the Dukes, has 48 steals so far this season. She ranks second in the CAA while averaging 3.4 steals per game. She is 13th nationally for steals per game and 20th for total steals.

Up Next: Towson wraps up the weekend by hosting College of Charleston on Sunday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. Sunday will be the Tigers' Hometown Heroes game and all military personnel and first responders can receive four free tickets to the game.
