ANNAPOLIS, Md. - After a three week break from competition, the Towson University women's tennis team returns to action this weekend at the eighth annual Navy Blue & Gold Invitational. Play begins on Friday at 9 a.m., and will continue on Saturday and Sunday.
The Tigers are one of 11 teams competing in the tournament which features six singles flights and three doubles flights. Navy and Towson will be joined by Binghamton, UConn, George Mason, George Washington, Howard, Maryland, Morgan State, Rutgers and Seton Hall.
The bulk of the tournament will be played at the Brigade Sports Complex, which consist of the outdoor Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium and the indoor Tose Family Tennis Center. Some matches will also be contested at the Bancroft Hall Eighth Wing Tennis Courts on the grounds of the U.S. Naval Academy. The courts at the Brigade Sports Complex are open to the public. Fans must show photo ID and walk through the Gate One pedestrian gate to watch the action at the Eighth Wing courts.
Towson last competed at the Bedford Cup Mid-Atlantic Division I Championships and the Tiger Fall Classic from Sept. 15-17. Seniors Nicole Shakhnazarova and Lucy Williams advanced to the quarterfinals of the Bedford Cup while seniors A.J. Gomer and Renate van Oorschodt advanced to the semifinals of the consolation bracket. Freshman Alexa Martinez finished with four wins in four matches at the Tiger Fall Classic.
