Updating the Tigers: Towson notched its first win of the season with a dominating 20-5 win at UMBC last Wednesday. Sophomore
Carly Tellekamp led the offensive explosion with six goals and one assist for seven points while junior
Emily Gillingham added four goals and six draw controls. Tellekamp and senior
Samantha Brookhart are tied for the team lead with 10 points each. Tellekamp has contributed nine goals and one assist while Brookhart has posted four goals and a team-high six assists. Sophomore
Natalie Sulmonte has pulled down a team-high eight draw controls. Freshman
Olivia Conti has corralled a team-high eight groundballs while senior
Kelly McQuilkin has a team-best eight caused turnovers. Sophomore
Angie Benson made a season-high seven saves against UMBC while freshman
Kiley Keating carries a 7.78 goals against average and a .484 save percentage into the week.
Scouting Georgetown: Georgetown enters Wednesday's action looking to bounce back from a hard fought 17-13 loss to No. 2 Maryland on Saturday.
Emily Ehle led the Hoyas with three goals and an assist for four points against the Terps.
Taylor Gebhardt leads Georgetown with six goals and four assists for 10 points while
Francesca Whitehurst has posted seven goals and two assists for nine points. Whitehurst has contributed a team-high 14 draw controls.
Jenny Schwalje leads the defensive efforts with six groundballs and nine caused turnovers.
Maddy Fisher leads the Hoyas in goal with a 12.56 goals against average and a .500 save percentage.
Towson-Georgetown Series History: It will be the 22nd meeting all-time between the Tigers and Hoyas. Towson holds an 11-10 edge in the series following an 8-7 win when the two teams met in Towson last spring. The Tigers, who have won three straight against the Hoyas, got the game-winning goal from
Carly Tellekamp with 24 seconds to play.
I'm Honored: After leading the offensive charge at UMBC, sophomore attacker
Carly Tellekamp was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week on Tuesday. Tellekamp was honored for the first time this season and the fifth time in her career (4x CAA Rookie of the Week last spring). She scored a career-high six goals on seven shots and added an assist for seven points. She is the first Tiger since
Rhiannon Coogle in 2013 to score six goals in a game and the first Tiger since
Ashleigh Rohrback in 2014 to have seven or more points in a game. Tellekamp is the third Tiger to be honored by the CAA this season (
Kelly McQuilkin-Feb. 7,
Sami Chenoweth-Feb. 14). Tellekamp was also named the NewDay USA TowsonTigers.com Female Student-Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
Piling Up the Goals: The Towson offense exploded for 20 goals in the win at UMBC, scoring 10 goals in each half. It was tied with the 2015 team (at William & Mary) for the most goals scored in a game under head coach
Sonia LaMonica. It was also the 17th time in program history that a Tiger squad scored 20 or more goals in a game. The school record for goals in a game is 27 against Frostburg State in 1984.
A Goal from an Unlikely Source: Towson's eighth goal in the win over UMBC may not have looked like much on the scoresheet but it may have brought the loudest cheer from the Towson bench. Junior defender
Tianna Wallpher scored a free position goal at 8:05 of the first half. Wallpher's goal came against her former team (she played at UMBC in 2015) and was the first goal by a Towson defender since
Kelly McQuilkin scored against Delaware in 2014.
Hats Off to You: A trio of Tigers recorded their first hat trick of the season against UMBC. Sophomore
Carly Tellekamp had a career-high six goals while junior
Emily Gillingham had a career-best four goals. Junior
Kaitlyn Montalbano recorded three tallies on the scoresheet. For Tellekamp it was her fifth career hat trick while Gillingham now has four career hat tricks. Montalbano has now tallied three or more goals in a game 10 times in her career.
Just the Way We Drew It Up: Towson dominated in the draw circle against UMBC, winning 18 of the game's 26 draw controls. Seven Tigers pulled down at least one draw control. That group included junior
Emily Gillingham who matched her career-high with six draws and redshirt freshman
Maddie Dickman who pulled down her first career draw control. It was the Tigers' most draw control wins since they had 18 against Stetson last year on March 11.
Up Next: After playing three straight on the road, the Tigers return to Unitas Stadium on Sunday, Feb. 26 to host Loyola at noon.
