Updating the Tigers: Playing their fourth top 10 team of the season, the Tigers jumped out to a three-goal halftime advantage and held off a second half charge for a 14-11 victory over No. 10 Notre Dame on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore attacker
Natalie Sulmonte led Towson with five goals and one assist while fellow sophomore
Angie Benson made eight saves in goal. The Tigers have a balanced offensive attack as four players have 20 or more points this season. Senior attacker
Samantha Brookhart leads the team in points (30) and assists (21). Sulmonte and sophomore attacker
Carly Tellekamp have each found the back of the net a team-best 21 times. Sulmonte has also pulled down a team-high 33 draw controls. Junior defender
Tianna Wallpher has a team-best 17 groundballs while freshman defender
Olivia Conti leads the squad with 18 caused turnovers each. Benson carries a 9.60 goals against average and a .494 save percentage into the weekend.
Scouting Monmouth: Monmouth suffered a 14-5 setback at Boston College of Wednesday afternoon.
Caroline Corbliss had a pair of goals and two draw controls against the Eagles while
Riley Brager made 14 saves in the contest.
Nicole Cersao leads the Hawks with 12 goals and 18 assists for 30 points.
Olivia Higson has a team-high 23 goals and has added five assists for 28 points. Corbliss leads the team with 26 draw controls while
Claudia LaMarca has 17 groundballs and nine caused turnovers. Brager enters the game with a 14.43 goals against average and a .400 save percentage.
Towson-Monmouth Series History: Towson and Monmouth will be meeting for the fifth time in the all-time series. The Tigers have claimed victory in each of the first four meetings, including a 9-1 win when the two squads met in the season opener last year in Towson. Then freshman
Angie Benson made five saves in her first career appearance to help the Tigers surrender their fewest goals in a game since 1990.
Piling Up the Wins: Towson's win over Notre Dame on Wednesday was head coach
Sonia LaMonica's 78th on the Tiger sidelines. LaMonica needs one more win to tie
Missy Doherty, who had 79 wins in seven seasons at Towson. Doherty currently holds the program record for career coaching victories. She racked up those 79 wins between 2004 and 2010.
Five Is Fine with Us: Sophomore attacker
Natalie Sulmonte has proven to have a nose for the goal. Sulmonte finished with five goals against Notre Dame. It was the second straight game that she recorded a career-high five tallies. Sulmonte now has 15 multi-goal games in her career. In nine of those games, she has scored three or more goals, including four times this season.
Helping Ourselves: Towson recorded a season-high 18 caused turnovers against Notre Dame. Ten Tigers recorded at least one caused turnover against the Fighting Irish. Five Towson players finished with two caused turnovers in the game. Freshman
Olivia Conti led the efforts with four caused turnovers against Notre Dame. Towson now has 95 caused turnovers in eight games. Conti has a team-high 18 caused turnovers to start her collegiate career while senior defender
Kelly McQuilkin has added 16 caused turnovers. Freshman
Sami Chenoweth has contributed 14 caused turnovers. Dating back to the start of the 2016 season, the Tigers are 11-3 when they force double-digit caused turnovers in a game.
Reaching the Century Mark: One Tiger reached the 100 point mark in the win over Notre Dame while another moved one step closer. Junior midfielder
Kaitlyn Montalbano had three points against Notre Dame which gave her 17 for the season and 100 for her career. She is the first Tiger player since
Andi Raymond (2011-15) to reach 100 career points.
Senior attacker
Samantha Brookhart finished with four points in the Notre Dame game and now has 30 points this season and 99 in her career.
