I'm Honored: Sophomore attacker
Natalie Sulmonte was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week on Monday. Sulmonte earned her first weekly honors of the season after leading the Tigers to the upset win over Notre Dame and a road victory at Monmouth. She had five goals and one assist for six points against Notre Dame. She also added four ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers against the Fighting Irish. Sulmonte followed that up with three goals and two assists for five points at Monmouth. She had a game-high eight draw controls against the Hawks.
Piling Up the Wins: Towson's win over Monmouth on Sunday was head coach
Sonia LaMonica's 79th on the Tiger sidelines. LaMonica (2011-pres.) moved into a tie with
Missy Doherty (2004-10), for career coaching victories. LaMonica enters the Oregon game with a record of 79-44 (.642) on the Towson sidelines.
Helping Ourselves: One of the keys to success for the Tigers this season has been their ability to force their oppoents into turnovers. Towson opponents have turned the ball over 181 times in nine games and 104 of those have been caused by the Tigers. Towson has recorded 10 or more caused turnovers in seven games this season, including a season-high 18 caused turnovers against Notre Dame. Entering play this week, the Tigers were ranked first in the CAA and 14th in the nation in caused turnovers per game (11.56). Four Tigers have recorded 10 or more caused turnovers this season. Freshman
Olivia Conti leads the team with 21 caused turnovers and is 19th nationally while averaging 2.33 caused turnovers per game. Dating back to the start of the 2016 season, the Tigers are 11-3 when they force double-digit caused turnovers in a game.
It's a Balanced Attack: The Tigers have ridden a balanced attack to their success so far this season. Five Tigers have recorded 20 or more points through the first nine games and three of those players have posted 30 or more points. Of the three that reached 30 or more points, senior
Samantha Brookhart and sophomore
Carly Tellekamp have already surpassed their point total from a year ago. Last year it took the Tigers 20 game to have four players with 30 or more points. Through Thursday's games the Tigers were one of seven teams in either the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) or Cascade Inside Lacrosse Media Poll to have five or more players with 20 or more points.
Just the Way She Drew It Up: Sophomore attacker
Natalie Sulmonte continues to impress from the draw circle for the Tigers. Sulmonte led the Tigers with eight draw controls at Monmouth, it was the fifth time this season she has pulled down four or more draw controls in a game. Earlier this season, Sulmonte tied the Towson single-game record with 11 draw controls against Stetson. She enters play this weekend with 41 draw controls this season and 92 for her career. Sulmonte needs eight more draw controls to crack the top 10 for career draw controls at Towson.
What's Next? Towson is back in action when it opens CAA play with a trip to James Madison on Saturday, April 1. Opening draw from Harrisonburg, Virginia is set for 1 p.m. in a game that will be available on Lax Sports Network.
