Updating the Tigers: Sophomore attacker
Natalie Sulmonte had three goals and junior defender
Tianna Wallpher recorded a career-high five caused turnovers but it was not enough as Towson fell to James Madison, 9-5 on Saturday. The Tigers have a balanced offensive attack as five players have 20 or more points this season. Brookhart leads the team in points (40) and assists (27). Sulmonte and fellow sophomore attacker
Carly Tellekamp have each recorded 30 or more points this season. Sulmonte has 28 goals and 10 assists for 38 points while Tellekamp also has a team-high 28 goals and seven assists for 35 points. Sulmonte has pulled down a team-high 44 draw controls. Wallpher has scooped up a team-high 32 ground balls. Freshman defender
Olivia Conti leads the squad with 27 caused turnovers. Sophomore
Angie Benson carries a 8.70 goals against average and a .514 save percentage into the weekend.
Scouting William & Mary: William & Mary has lost three of its last four contests following a 12-8 setback to Richmond on March 25.
Lindsey Jenks paced the Tribe with four goals and three draw controls in that contest. Jenks leads the Tribe this season with 27 goals and eight assists for 35 points while
McKinley Wade has added 19 goals and six assists for 25 points.
Meredith Hughes has contributed a team-high 30 draw controls while
Abby Junior does a little bit of everything and has 34 ground balls and 28 caused turnovers.
Alex Lista brings a 11.71 goals against average and a .453 save percentage into the game.
Towson-William & Mary Series History: Towson faces the Tribe for the 23rd time in series history on Friday night. The Tigers hold a 14-8 edge in the match-up with William & Mary and have won eight straight against the Tribe. The Tigers claimed a 13-7 victory, last year when the two squads met in Towson.
Kaitlyn Montalbano and
Natalie Sulmonte led the Tigers in that game with three goals and an assist each.
Danielle Palmucci had a goal and two assists for the Tribe.
Hats Off to You: Sophomore attacker
Natalie Sulmonte led the Tigers with three goals at James Madison. It was Sulmonte's team-leading sixth hat trick of the season and the Tigers are 5-1 in those contests. She now has 11 hat tricks in 31 career games for Towson.
Don't I Know You: A glance at the William & Mary bench will reveal a familiar face to fans of Towson lacrosse. William & Mary head coach
Hillary Fratzke played for the Tigers between 2006-10. She still holds the school record for career ground balls (193), draw controls (327) and caused turnovers (144).
I'll Take That: Freshman defender
Olivia Conti had a pair of caused turnovers at James Madison which raised her season total to 27 caused turnovers. Conti is tied for eighth on the single-season top 10. She is just the second freshman to crack the single-season top 10 at Towson. The other freshman to do was
Alexa Demski, who had 30 caused turnovers in 2010.
Helping Ourselves: One of the keys to success for the Tigers this season has been their ability to force their opponents into turnovers. Towson opponents have turned the ball over 222 times in nine games and 130 of those have been caused by the Tigers. Towson has recorded 10 or more caused turnovers in nine games this season, including a season-high 18 caused turnovers against Notre Dame. Entering play this week, the Tigers were ranked first in the CAA and ninth in the nation in caused turnovers per game (11.82). Four Tigers have recorded 10 or more caused turnovers this season. Freshman
Olivia Conti leads the team with 27 caused turnovers and is 11th nationally while averaging 2.45 caused turnovers per game. Dating back to the start of the 2016 season, the Tigers are 12-4 when they force double-digit caused turnovers in a game.
Standing Tall: The Tigers have gotten strong performances from both sophomore
Angie Benson and freshman
Kiley Keating in goal this season. In five of the Tigers' wins this season, the pair have recorded eight or more saves and in four of those games, the Tigers have more saves than goals allowed. Towson enters play this weekend with a .497 save percentage which ranks first in the CAA and 15th in the nation. Benson has a .513 save percentage which ranks first in the conference and 10th in the nation.
We'll Take the Freebies: Freshman midfielder
Shelby Stack scored a free position goal at James Madison, adding to the Tigers' success from the eight-meter arc. With Stack's goal, the Tigers have now scored 31 free position goals this season. Towson is now just 10 free position goals short of matching their season total in that category from a year ago. Sophomore attacker
Natalie Sulmonte leads the team with 10 free position goals while junior midfielder
Kaitlyn Montalbano has added four. The Tigers enter play this week with a .500 free position percentage, which ranks second in the CAA and 16th nationally.
What's Next? Towson is back in action when it plays host to Elon on Sunday, April 9 at noon. That will be the CAA Game of the Week and featured on Lax Sports Network.
