TOWSON, Md. – One of the areas that the Towson University football has some experience is on the defensive line. The Tigers return six players who saw action a season ago.
"The number one thing we have to do is have effort. Sideline-to-sideline, snap to whistle, we have to run," said defensive line coach
Konstantinos Kosmakos. "I think the guys in camp have done a fantastic job, as a unit, giving maximum effort. We still have to sharpen up some things, but we have a week to go."
The group is led by
D'Sean Cummings. The senior led the defensive line with 55 tackles last season.
Senior
Clifton Jones and redshirt junior
Zain Harps Upshur 3.5 tackles-for-loss last season, while
Kanyia Anderson tied for the team lead with three sacks.
"The fifth-year seniors have all taken roles and taken opportunities when they have presented themselves to lead," said Kosmakos. "They, along with Zain, have really taken control of the whole unit."
Redshirt sophomore
Malik Tyne is one of the best athletes on the team and become that pass rusher on the outside that every team needs.
Niquekko Cook has battled through injuries in his career, but can make an impact if healthy.
Reece Burnett brings some size to the nose tackle position.
Grant Udinski was selected the defensive scout team player of the year last season and he looks to carry that momentum from his redshirt year.
Freshman
Tibo Debaillie made his way over from Belguim in the spring and is quickly adjusting to the college game.
Newcomers
Sam Gyeni and
John Lambert will push for playing time this season.
