Three Tigers Earn NFCA All-Scholar Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Towson University softball student-athletes Megan Dejter, Jaclyn Mounie and Julia Smith-Harrington earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete honors following the 2017-18 academic year.
 
Dejter, Mounie and Smith-Harrington also were named to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Academic Honor Roll for the 2018 spring semester.
 
They helped Towson enjoy a memorable 2018 season. The Tigers won a school record 42 victories and participate in its first postseason tournament in program history.
 
Nationally, Towson ended the season ranked fifth in batting (.327) and in doubles per game (1.66).  The Tigers also finished seventh in scoring (6.18), 11th in slugging percentage (.500), and 16th in on-base percentage (.400).
 
In addition to the wins, the Tigers set single season program records for runs (377), hits (522), doubles (101), total bases (798), walks (183) and batting average (.327). This was Towson's highest batting average since the 1994 team hit .306.
 
Dejter set a single-season record for wins (24) and was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) First Team. A two-time CAA Player of the Week, was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® 2 Division I Softball First Team. Dejter was also inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the academic fraternity for the National College Athlete Honor Society.
 
Smith-Harrington made 19 appearances and won seven games. She finished with 33 strikeouts over 61.1 innings. Against Mount St. Mary's, Smith-Harrington pitched 6.1 no-hit innings. She had three games with five or more strikeouts last season. Mounie was the Tigers primary pinch-runner last year. She scored nine runs and had a hit against Eastern Kentucky in the NISC Tournament.
 
The NFCA honored a record 1,316 NCAA Division I softball student-athletes this week who earned a 3.5 grade-point average or higher. Individually, 6,280 softball players across seven membership divisions earned Easton / NFCA Scholar-Athlete honors in 2017-18.
