BOX SCORE RICHMOND, Va. – Sunday's non-conference matchup between the Towson University field hockey team and the Richmond Spiders ended in a win for the home team.
The Tigers fall to 1-11 on the year while the Spiders improve to 4-9.
How it Happened
- Possession was back and forth in the opening minutes of the first period. Neither team found the back of the net until the 24th minute when Richmond broke the silence and took the lead.
- It wasn't long after that the home team scored again, and a third goal in the 31st minute to take a 3-0 lead into the locker room.
- In the first period the Tigers didn't record a shot but freshman goalkeeper Mackenzie Peacock did grab two saves as the Spiders took 11 shots.
- The second period opened similarly but Richmond found an opportunity 13 minutes in to score again and take a 4-0 lead.
- A foul on the home team gave a penalty stroke to Towson as senior Katie McNeel scored her sixth goal of the season.
- The Tigers had cut the lead but only with 13 minutes remaining, and another Spider goal would seal the deal with two minutes left.

- With today's goal, McNeel has tied her career-high in season goals with six. Last year she was Towson's leading scorer with as many goals in fewer games.
- Peacock finished with eight saves, her fourth game this year with eight or more saves.
- The Tigers only had three corners today compared to Richmond's 13.
- Towson struggled to break the Spider defense, finishing with only two shots and one on goal while the home team took 24 attempts with 13 on goal.
- There was only one card given out today, to Richmond's Addie Nash a yellow card in the 49th minute.
