TOWSON, Md. – The Tiger Athletic Fund (TAF) Donor of the Game was awarded to Denny and Cynthia Mather during the men's basketball game versus James Madison at SECU Arena on Feb. 17.
Denny graduated from Towson in 1972 with a degree in business administration. He currently sits on the TU Athletics AD Advisory Board as well as TU's Board of Visitors. Denny gives back to his alma mater as a donor and has been a men's basketball season ticket holder since 2007.
Being on the inside, Denny has been able to see why private donations are important to the overall success of the athletic department and the impact they have. "I give back to Towson Athletics knowing that the state of Maryland does not allow tuition to include expenses for athletics. In addition, Towson does a fantastic job with supporting its student-athletes in their academics, producing better results than most other universities. In some cases, our teams have a GPAÂ above the overall school."
Giving back is something to be proud of. Denny shares, "I am proud of Towson University and the fact that we do not 'use' athletes for their sport skill only, but we work with the students to be sure they earn a degree and have opportunities in life beyond sports."
"We are extremely thankful for the Mathers' and all that they have done for Towson student-athletes," said
Dan Crowley, associate athletic director for development. "Denny is not local to the area, but his constant presence is impactful and inspiring. We depend on fans like Denny to be our biggest ambassadors, share our cause, and to tell our story."
The Tiger Athletic Fund thanks Denny and Cynthia for their continued support of Towson Athletics. To join them in supporting student-athlete scholarshipsÂ
