No. 8 Tigers Look for Eighth CAA Championship

Opening Draw
• Towson begins its quest for the program's league-leading eighth Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championship when the second-seeded Tigers face third-seeded Elon in the semifinals of the 2018 CAA Women's Lacrosse Championship Friday at James Madison's Sentara Park.
• The game will be broadcast live on Lax Sports Network while Ben Rosenbaum will have a live audio broadcast on the Towson Sports Network.
• The audio feed and live stats will be available at TowsonTigers.com.

Game Storylines
• Towson, who is making its 15th appearance in the CAA Women's Lacrosse Championship, is looking for its eighth CAA title and fifth under head coach Sonia LaMonica.
• The Tigers have won four CAA championships in the last six years with wins in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016.
• The Phoenix have not played a game since an 18-13 win at Drexel on April 22 after their final regular-season game at home against William & Mary on April 28 was canceled.
• Senior Emily Gillingham has scored a goal in 25 consecutive games while senior Kaitlyn Montalbano has scored a goal in 16-straight.
• Towson was ranked at No. 9 in the latest NCAA RPI rankings released on Tuesday.
• Saturday mark's Towson's first neutral site game since May 12, 2017 when it faced High Point in the opening round of the 2018 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship at Maryland's Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.

A Towson Win Would …
• Send the Tigers to the CAA championship game for the seventh time in the last eight years and the 10th time since 2005.
• Be the Tigers' 15th win of the season, marking the third time in the last seven seasons and third overall that the team has won at least 15 games. The school record is 16 set in 2012 and 2016 when both squads went 16-4 and won CAA championships.
• Be the 100th for head coach Sonia LaMonica in eight seasons at Towson where she is currently 99-51 (.660).
• Improve the Tigers' record to 17-6 in the CAA tournament, including 10-4 in the semifinals.

Last Time Out
•  Junior Natalie Sulmonte tied a season-high with four goals and six points, but James Madison scored the game-winning goal with just 1:18 remaining in overtime to lift the No. 4 Dukes to a 17-16 victory over the No. 8 Tigers last Saturday at Unitas Stadium.
• Towson had its nine-game win streak snapped and suffered its first loss in the last eight games at home. It was also the Tigers' first regular season home loss since March 5, 2017 when they fell to No. 3 Florida, 13-6, snapping a streak of 14-straight wins.
• James Madison was whistled for four yellow cards, allowed four man-up goals and allowed 18 free position shots.
• The game was the highest-score contest in the 44-game history between the Tigers and Dukes. It was also the seventh time in the series that the game has needed overtime to decide a winner. Towson is now 5-2, including 3-2 at home.

Scouting Elon
• Stephanie Asher leads the Phoenix with 38 goals. eight assists and 46 points this season. She also leads the team with 70 draw controls and was named to the Tewaaraton Award watch list for the second year in a row.
• Shannon Horan and Bridget Lamb are tied for the team-lead with 27 ground balls each while Horan and Alexis Zadjura lead the team with 19 caused turnovers. Lamb is second with 18 caused turnovers.
• Tori Cipllone has played all 14 games in goal while making 12 starts. She has totaled an 11.70 goals against average and 79 saves for a .350 saves percentage.

Towson-Elon Series History
• Friday will be the seventh all-time meeting all-time between the Tigers and Phoenix with Towson holding a 6-1 lead in the series.
• The Tigers won the last meeting between the two teams on April 13 at Rudd Field, 10-4.
• Friday's game will mark the third-straight year that the the Tigers and Phoenix have met in the semifinals of the CAA Women's Lacrosse Championship. Elon won in overtime a year ago, 10-9, at Towson's Unitas Stadium on May 5, 2017 while the Tigers posted an 8-6 victory at Drexel's Vidas Field on May 6, 2016.
• Stephanie Asher scored with 2:15 to play in overtime to lift the Phoenix to a win over Towson in 2017. Emily Gillingham scored three goals while Natalie Sulmonte had two goals and two assists.

Last Meeting: April 13, 2018
• Junior Natalie Sulmonte scored three goals, including the 100th of her career, while sophomore Olivia Conti totaled five caused turnovers as the eighth-ranked Tigers posted a 10-4 road win over Elon at Rudd Field.
• Sophomore Kiley Keating finished with 10 saves.
• Towson totaled 13 caused turnovers and held Elon without a free position goal as the Phoenix went 0-for-2.
• The Tigers held Stephanie Asher to just one goal.

Conti Repeats as Defensive Player of the Year
• On Thursday, sophomore Olivia Conti was named CAA Defensive Player of the Year for the second-straight season while the Tigers boasted nine players who were named All-CAA.
• Conti was one of five players named to the All-CAA First Team, joining junior Natalie Sulmonte, senior Emily Gillingham, senior Tianna Wallpher and sophomore Kiley Keating.
• Junior Carly Tellekamp, senior Kaitlyn Montalbano and sophomore Sami Chenoweth were each named to the All-CAA Second Team.
• Freshman Kaitlin Thornton was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team.
• Conti, who shared the honor with James Madison's Haley Warden, is the fifth player in CAA history to be named Defensive Player of the Year in consecutive seasons. Conti leads the CAA with 46 caused turnovers, just three shy of the school and CAA record she set last year.

Defense Wins Championships
• Towson is ranked fifth in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 8.65 goals per game. The team is also ranked fourth with 12.29 caused turnovers per game and 10th with a .502 saves percentage.
• Sophomore Kiley Keating is ranked sixth in the nation with an 8.58 goals against average and 16th with a .496 save percentage.
• Sophomore Olivia Conti is ranked sixth in the nation with 2.65 caused turnovers per game while sophomore Sami Chenoweth and senior Tianna Wallpher are tied for ninth at 2.29.
• Conti leads all Division I players in career caused turnovers per game at 2.61. Quinnipiac's Kiera Kelly is second at 2.40. Conti has 46 caused turnovers this season, just three shy of her program and CAA record set a year ago.
• The Tigers are 72-13 under head coach Sonia LaMonica when holding opponents under 10 goals, including 9-0 this season.
• The Tigers have had the CAA Defensive Player of the Week in five of the last nine weekly reports.

Keeping it 100
• The number 100 has been a consistent storyline for the Tigers this season. Towson has had four players score their 100th career goal this season. Junior Natalie Sulmonte became the latest member of the 100-goal club at Elon.
• Sulmonte joined senior Kaitlyn Montalbano, senior Emily Gillingham and junior Carly Tellekamp in scoring her 100th career goal. Montalbano did it against Michigan, Gillingham reached the milestone at Stony Brook and Tellekamp scored her 100th career goal at Drexel.
• Head coach Sonia LaMonica reached her 100th career win with a 15-10 victory over Oregon on March 26. She is also just one win shy of reaching 100 in eight seasons at Towson.
• Senior Tianna Wallpher has 104 career caused turnovers, becoming just the second player in program history to reach 100 against Hofstra.

Tigers Ranked Among Nation's Best
• Towson has been ranked in the last 37 consecutive IWLCA Division I polls dating back to Feb. 29, 2016.
• The team's ranking at No. 6 by Inside Lacrosse earlier this season represents the team's highest-ever ranking. The Tigers' previous high came on March 29, 2010 when they were at No. 7 in the IWLCA poll.

Four Tigers Selected as Midseason All-Americans
• Four Tigers were selected as Division I Midseason All-Americans by Inside Lacrosse. Sophomore Olivia Conti was named to the second team and sophomore Sami Chenoweth was named to the third team while junior Natalie Sulmonte and senior Tianna Wallpher were both named honorable mention.

Up Next for Towson
• With a win, the Tigers will face either top-seeded James Madison or fourth-seeded Delaware in the CAA championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
• The 2018 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Selection Show will be this Sunday, May 6 at 9:30 p.m.
