TOWSON, Md. – This weekend the Towson University field hockey team is playing its first split weekend of the season, traveling to Lock Haven for a Friday night matchup before hosting Sacred Heart on Sunday in the 2018 home opener.

Friday evening's game begins at 6 p.m. against the Bald Eagles, while Sunday's game is slated for 1 p.m. at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium.

Last Time Out
Towson enters the weekend 0-2 following losses to Appalachian State and Davidson. Against the Wildcats the Tigers put one goal in the net from
Katie McNeel and tied the game, but were unable to take the lead after the home team took a 3-1 advantage late in the game.

Scouting the Bald Eagles (1-1)
Friday will be the ninth meeting between LHU and Towson, and the Bald Eagles lead the series 7-1. This season Lock Haven is 1-1 after a season-opening win over Lehigh, 1-0. Junior Taryn Piano scored the game-winner against Lehigh. LHU's second opponent of opening weekend was Sacred Heart, a game that the Pioneers took 3-2. Tamia Roach is leading the offensive effort with 15 shots, and three players have one goal each.

Last Time Against Lock Haven
In 2017 the Bald Eagles came to Towson and left with a 4-2 mark in the win column. LHU scored in the first five minutes and held the lead until the 18
th minute when the Tigers scored to tie it up. Six minutes later a goal from the Bald Eagles took a 2-1 advantage for the road team into halftime, and they scored a third goal two minutes into the second period.
Kendra Sykes scored the second goal for the home team, but an insurance goal from LHU locked in the win.

Scouting the Pioneers (2-0)
This Sunday will be the sixth meeting between Sacred Heart and Towson, with the Pioneers leading the series 3-2. Sacred Heart comes to town 2-0 after wins over Lock Haven and Lehigh. Last Sunday SHU took a 2-1 win over Lehigh with goals from Coleen McAninley and Allie Brouhard. Both McAninley and Brouhard have one goal and one assist on the season, while Kelsy Hopkins leads the team in shots with five. Before Sundays game the Pioneers are playing Friday afternoon at Georgetown.

Last Time Against Sacred Heart
Last fall the Tigers traveled to Connecticut to take on the Pioneers and fell 4-1. McNeel scored the only goal for the road team and goalkeeper
Emilee Woodall grabbed nine saves but the home team held control. Sacred Heart scored two goals in the first period and a third in the 54
th minute. McNeel's goal cut the lead to only two, but an insurance goal from SHU secured the win.

A New Place to Call Home
Construction is continuing on the new field hockey complex, including a new water-based carpet style field. The new field is part of the renovation project of the South Campus athletic fields. Once completed the Tigers will have a new home field for their contests.

Sunday Fun
While the field hockey team plays at home for the first time this season, Towson fans can come to campus for an 11 a.m. women's soccer game as the Tigers host Utah State.
The Sports Bra ProjectÂ
This season the Tigers will be partnering to serve The Sports Bra Project again, holding drives at their home events to collect sports bras which are given to communities with less resources. Last season the Towson field hockey team joined the movement to support this organization, and will continue to do so this season.
