BOX SCORE RICHMOND, Va. - Sunday the Towson University field hockey team traveled to Richmond, Virginia for an afternoon game at VCU and fell to the home team 9-0. The Rams even out to 3-3 on the season while the Tigers fall to 1-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- VCU scored early goals just seven and nine minutes in to take a 2-0 lead. As the Tigers defense held on and the home team finished with 16 total corners, they were unable to prevent every shot from hitting the back of the net.
- In the 21st and 25th minutes the Rams scored again, holding a 4-0 lead into halftime.
- Just 10 minutes into the second period, VCU's leading scorer Emily McNamara added another goal on as the team scored five goals in the half.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS
- Towson struggled shooting-wise with just four shots total and one on goal. Senior Katie McNeel led with three shots while freshman Kerri Thornton had one.Â
- Tigers' goalkeeper Mackenzie Peacock finished with 16 saves.Â
LOOKING AHEAD
Towson will have a similar schedule to last week with no Friday game but an away game next Sunday at Temple at noon.
