Towson enters the contest with a 1-6 record, following a setback to VCU last Sunday on the road. Senior co-captain
Katie McNeel is leading the offense with three goals and one assist while four other Tigers have one goal each. Sophomore
Abby Webster and freshman
Kerri Thornton both have contributed two assists this season.
Scouting the Owls
Temple will host its first conference opponent Providence on Friday night before Towson arrives on Sunday. The Owls start the weekend with a 1-5 record, the lone win over Lafayette two weeks ago. Mia Sexton is leading Temple offensively with two goals, and five of her teammates have scored one goal each. Kathryn Edgar, Cristen Barnett and Taylor Alba all have recorded two assists each. The Owls' last game ended in a loss to Kent State 6-2 while at home.
Last Time Against Temple
Sunday will be the third meeting between these two teams as Temple holds a 2-0 series lead. The last meeting took place in 2015 at College Park when the Owls came out with a 9-0 win.
Construction Continues
The south campus construction on Towson's new water-based carpet field is still in action. The new complex is anticipated to be finished with building later this fall and will serve as the new home field for the Tigers who currently play on Towson's football field at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium.
Rookie Performance
Tiger freshmen
Gretchen Alderfer,
Pamela Abbott, Katy Parkinson,
Paige Reese and
Kasey Bubel continue to build for their future playing in the black and gold as the five rookies are in the top-10 minutes-played category. Alderfer is second on the team with 478 minutes played so far this season.
Guarding the Net
Two goalkeepers
Mackenzie Peacock and
Ashleigh Bathras have both spend time at the net and through 496 minutes they have made 33 saves, ranking them 43rd in the nation in saves per game. Peacock is No. 20 individually in saves per game.
Tigers Helping Future Female Athletes
The field hockey team continues its partnership with The Sports Bra Project all season long with a collection at all home games of new sports bras. While the organization is global, after working with the group last season Towson's connection to the Baltimore area has created the opportunity to keep donations local. All donations, clothing or monetary, will go to The BeMore Athletic League for local, school-aged students who are participating in after school sports.
Looking Ahead
Next weekend the Tigers will return home for their first CAA game of the year against Hofstra. Friday's game is slated for 3 p.m. at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium.
