TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team is back and getting ready for the year, beginning practice as the 2019 season is not far away.
The team began its practices this week with workouts at Johnny Unitas® Stadium and in the Towson Center with the cold weather outside. Along with the field workouts, portable mounds were placed on the Unitas turf to simulate pitching sessions while hitters got work in the batting cages in the Towson Center top level.
Along with practices, the team had some fun activities, touring Camden Yards, the home of the Baltimore Orioles, and the Under Armour facility in Baltimore.
"It is great to be back out here," said Towson head coach
Matt Tyner. "Despite the cold weather, we've been able to get some fly balls and ground balls, plus have our pitchers get a feel on what it is like to throw at this temperature. We are also doing some good work in the cages; it is fun to see the guys get active and rolling again."
The team brings in 20 newcomers for 2019, joining with 12 letterwinners from last season.
Matt Tyner enters his second year as head coach of Towson.
The 2019 campaign begins with a three-game series at Davidson in North Carolina on Friday, February 15
