TOWSON, Md. – It's amazing when one discovers their purpose. The passion and enthusiasm oozes out of them and illuminates their sparkling spirit.
 
This happened to Towson senior Erica Han during a transformational summer experience of interning in an assisted living facility caring for dementia and Alzheimer's patients.  A biology major with a fundamental biology of animals' concentration, Han is already excited about the next phase of her life once she graduates in May.
 
"I'll be applying to medical school this upcoming spring," Han said. "With that said, I aspire to become a surgeon; while working as a CNA for patients who lack the ability to take care of themselves. I learned many things including patience and responsibility, but most importantly I learned more about myself.  The devotion I have to positively impact the lives of others through medicine was deepened through these experiences I encountered this summer."
 
Han has also enjoyed a solid career as a member of the Towson University women's golf team. Han and Josephine Jung will compete for the final time in the Towson Invitational. Also representing Towson this week will be Sarah Perine, Jayla Kang, Jordan Cornelius, Madeline Catalano, Emma Cox, and Madison Barber.
 
The two-round tournament features Towson, Navy, Bucknell, St. John's, Wagner and Fairleigh-Dickinson competing on the par 72, 6,136 yard Eagle's Nest Course on Monday, October 14 and Tuesday, October 15.
 
"I'm excited to play in my last home tournament this upcoming week," Han said. "I know I will definitely get more emotional once the tournament date gets closer. Just having the support of the team, everybody's family members, and alumni this weekend on the course will definitely make this last home tournament for me very special."
 
Han has helped Towson to a hot start under first-year head coach Shannon Briggs. Towson has finished third as a team in two of its three tournaments (Bucknell and Starmount Forest Fall Classic). Han has two top 20 finishes this season and five for her career. Her 77.1 scoring average per round is second on the team behind Cornelius, who averages 74.5.
 
Last season, Han finished in sixth overall at the Towson Invitational (152 +8) helping the Tigers capture second place. She has contributed to the growth of the Tiger program during her career. As a sophomore, Han helped the Tigers finish third overall at the CAA Championships, which was the highest in program history, by finishing 16th overall.
 
Han believes the Tigers can accomplish something special this season if they continue to improve.
 
"Everyone is very excited for our home tournament," Han said. "We are coming off of some great performances from recent tournaments, and I think our confidence in our abilities have increased tremendously this semester.  We all know what we are capable of and how low we can score; we definitely want to bring home a win before this season concludes.
 
"My experiences at Towson have been great overall.  I am grateful for all of the experiences Towson athletics and the university as a whole has given me these past three years.  My teammates and professors at Towson have definitely made my experiences more memorable."
