Field Hockey Heads to Texas for Neutral Site Game

TOWSON, Md. History will be made this week as the Towson University field hockey team travels to Texas to take part in the first NCAA Division I field hockey game played in the Lone Star State. The Tigers are scheduled to play Miami (OH) at Saint John's School in Houston.
 
After returning home, the Tigers host Davidson on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the TU Field Hockey Complex.
 
Thursday's game is set for a 7 p.m. start and live stats will be available on TowsonTigers.com. Sunday's game will be streamed by the Towson Sports Network and live stats will be running as well. All links can be found on the field hockey schedule page at TowsonTigers.com.
 
Scouting the Tigers
Towson (1-8) is coming off a tough outing against Bucknell on Sunday, the Black and Gold fell 3-0 to the Bison. Leading the offense are sophomore Katy Parkinson and freshman Georgia Beachley with three goals apiece. Freshman Samantha Aljets leads the Tigers in points with two goals and six assists for 10 points. In the net, freshman goalkeeper Tess Okkerse has played 488 minutes, she has 56 saves through the season.
 
Scouting the RedHawks
Miami Ohio (6-4) has won four of its last five games, including a 5-1 victory over Saint Francis. Last weekend the RedHawks defeated Davidson 1-0. Leading the way is Allie Grace Joyner with six goals and one assist. Two Miami players have three assists this year. RedHawks' goalies have split time in 2019 with Isabelle Perese starting the majority. Together, her and Rosie Kalis have allowed 14 goals and saved 35. Perese holds a save percentage of .717.
 
The Miami Series
Thursday will be the second meeting between these two teams. The single previous meeting came in 1994 where the RedHawks took a 4-0 win.
 
Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson (1-9) enters the weekend on a five-game losing streak. The Wildcats will play VCU on Friday, Oct. 4 before coming to Towson on Sunday. Three Davidson players have scored two goals this season including Julia Smith and McGee Roman who also have two assists apiece. Sarah Zeszotarski has started all 10 games at goalkeeper and has 67 saves this year on a .728 save percentage.
 
The Davidson Series
The Wildcats lead the series 4-3 and have won the last three games. This will be Davidson's first time on Towson's campus since the 2002 season when the Tigers won 4-1. The last five games have been away or played at neutral sites. In 2018 the Wildcats hosted the Tigers and won 3-1 to cap the first weekend of the season. Katie McNeel scored the Towson goal, assisted by Kendra Sykes.

Home Again, Home Again
Starting Sunday, the Tigers are home for five straight games. Next weekend Towson opens Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play against Northeastern on Friday afternoon. All home games are played at the TU Field Hockey Complex, admission is free and parking opens in Lot 20 one hour before the game starts.

Tigers in the Community
The Towson University athletics department deems community service as one of its highest priorities to give back to the Greater Baltimore area. For the seventh consecutive year, the department exceeded 10,000 hours of community service to the Greater Baltimore region, finishing with 11,162 hours of community service in the 2018-19 academic season. Towson ranked No. 1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition. Towson had a 97% participation rate, attended 118 community service opportunities and volunteered with 19 organizations. Towson won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
