Women's Swimming & Diving Hosts UMBC

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's swimming and diving teams hosts in-state rival UMBC in Burdick Hall on Saturday, Nov. 2.

The meet is scheduled to begin with the diving competition at 10 a.m. then swimming starts at 1 p.m.

Swimming Spotlight
Before each meet, the swimming and diving program will introduce us to someone in the senior class who will share highlights and their expectations of the season. This meet we introduce you to senior Rachel Hoban.

Hailing from Gambrills, Maryland the international business major will compete in the freestyle.

Each week the team is excited about the progress everyone is making. It has helped built the strength of the overall team together.

"This season I'm excited to see this team's progress through our mid-season meet at Bucknell and on to our championship meets in February," said Hoban. "This year we have already hit the ground running with best dual meet times, pool records, and achieving incredibly fast times in practice."

Every week we talk about the energy the Tigers provide and its really something that each swimmer feeds off of.

"One of our team's top strengths is definitely our ability to build energy on a pool deck," said Hoban.

"Sometimes, it's as if my teammates and I believe that out-cheering the other team will be factored in to the meet's final score. I know this team is psyched about the meets to come this season," said Hoban.

"Since day one, our team dynamic has been strong. Everyone continues to push each other during practice and hold each other accountable, all while having a blast when it is time to race. That is ultimately what will make or break our success," said Fetter.

Up next for Towson is the mid-season meet at Bucknell and it's the one meet each swimmer is looking forward too.

"I am most looking forward to our mid-season meet at Bucknell because that's the real turning point of our season," said Hoban. "It will be the first time we suit up this year so we can really track our progress and determine how to prepare for championship season."

Before Hoban and the Tigers compete at the Bucknell Invitational, they will compete in the 'Battle of the Beltway' as UMBC enters the pool deck and they look forward to the improvement that will come their way.

"For our meet against UMBC, we want to keep bettering the times we've already achieved this season," said Hoban.

"The "Battle of the Beltway" meet has always been a high-energy event over the years, so we're that much more hyped to swim this weekend."

Each week the Tigers is definitely about improvement and one thing for sure is come Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship time statements will be made.

"This year, I know this team wants to show the CAA that we have been putting in the work that it takes to come out on top," said Hoban.

"Personally, I'm working to better my times, specifically in my Individual Medley events."

Quick Fun Fact about Rachel: Before she competes she likes to listen to "One Day like This" by Elbow. It's a song that her and her dad would listen to in the car before most of her meets growing up. Rachel says that this
song still continues to help her find the confidence within to swim fast.
