Sanders Shines With Double-Double Against Buffalo

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Brian Fobbs tallied 22 points and Nakye Sanders notched his fourth career double-double during Towson's 76-73 defeat to Buffalo in a men's basketball consolation contest of the Gildan Charleston Classic at TD Arena Friday night.
 
Buffalo was the fourth straight opponent that competed in a 2019 postseason tournament that Towson battled. This was the first meeting between the programs since 2010.

How It Happened
  • Sanders had his best game of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Sanders has grabbed 29 rebounds over Towson's last three games.
  • He complemented his performance by tying his career high with three steals, dishing a trip of assists and blocking a pair of shots.
  • Fobbs' point total was a season best. He scored 15 points in the second half.
  • Fobbs also made his first 3-pointer of the season.
  • Towson held the lead for 25 minutes, 32 seconds.
  • The Tigers led by nine points on two occasions (19-10 with 9:56 left in the first half and 52-43 with 11:43 remaining).
  • Towson limited Buffalo to 36.1 percent shooting (26-for-72).
  • Allen Betrand, who scored eight of his 10 points in the second half, made a 3-pointer with 2:02 remaining to give Towson a 69-62 advantage.

  • Josh Mballa gave Buffalo the lead for good, 72-71, with a tip-in with 23 seconds remaining.

  • Davonta Jordan also had a double-double for Buffalo with 10 points and 10 assists.

  • This was the second time this season and the 14th time in his career that Fobbs scored 20 or more points.
  • Fobbs has scored in double figures in every game this season.

  • Charles Thompson scored all eight of his points in the first half.
  • Nicolas Timberlake finished with four points, three rebounds and two steals in 20 minutes.
  • It was Timberlake's first points since Dec. 8, 2018.
  • Jason Gibson tied his career high with five assists.
  • Dennis Tunstall raised his career blocked shot to 85 with two more rejections.
  • Tunstall also finished with a season best eight rebounds.
  • The game, which was tied at 34 at intermission, featured 12 lead changes and six ties.
  • Buffalo turned 22 Towson turnovers into 26 points.

  • Towson meets Saint Joseph's in the seventh place game on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 6 p.m. The game will be televised live on ESPNU.
