Towson University softball head coach Lisa Costello announced the Tigers' 56-game schedule for the 2020 season Tuesday afternoon.
The spring schedule is highlighted by six tournaments including two at the Tiger Softball Complex.
Towson will begin the season against Bucknell on Friday, Feb. 7 in the Spartan Classic hosted by USC Upstate. The Tigers will also compete against St. Francis (Pa.), Marshall and USC Upstate during the weekend events. This is the second season in a row where the Tigers are participating in the tournament.
A week later the Tigers will travel back to South Carolina for the Winthrop Tournament. Towson will face Holy Cross, Boston, Eastern Kentucky UNCG and Winthrop on Feb. 14-16.
Later in the month of February, the Tigers will participate in two more tournaments, the East Carolina Pirate Invitational and Colonial Classic hosted by George Washington before beginning their home schedule with the DeMarini Tiger Clash during the weekend of March 6-8.
Towson will host La Salle, Iona and Stony Brook that week and will welcome Morgan State and St. Francis (Pa.) during the Tiger Invite from March 13-15.
Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play will begin for the Tigers on the road as they return to South Carolina to face College of Charleston March 21-22. In addition to Charleston, the Tigers will visit James Madison and Drexel during conference play.
Other key matchups include the Tigers hosting George Mason (March 25) and University of Virginia (March 31).
Towson will also host CAA opponents Hofstra, Delaware, Elon and UNCW. The Tigers will celebrate Senior Day on May 2 against UNCW.
James Madison will host the CAA tournament, which runs from May 6-8.
Towson returns 17 student-athletes, including senior Julia Smith-Harrington who led the team and CAA last year in doubles (18). She was also named to the CAA All-Second Team and CoSIDA Academic All-District ® Team after having a .323 batting average with eight home runs and 39 RBIs. In the circle for Towson, she had a 2.20 ERA, 6-3 overall record and 58 strikeouts.
