TOWSON, Md. – Allen Betrand led the Towson University men's basketball team with 17 points during a 75-67 setback to Hofstra in a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) holiday matinee at SECU Arena Monday.
Betrand has scored in double figures in three consecutive games for the Tigers, leading them in scoring in the last two contests. Over his last three games against Tulane, Northeastern and Hofstra, Betrand averaged 17 points. In each of those games, he scored in double figures after intermission.
Nicolas Timberlake scored in double figures for the second time in Towson's last three games with 12 points.
Nakye Sanders and
Juwan Gray added 10 points each for the Tigers,. Timberlake, Gray and
Brian Fobbs led Towson with seven rebounds each.
Hofstra was paced by senior Desure Buie, who scored a career best 35 points on 9-of-14 shooting. In addition to collecting six rebounds and six assists, Buie scored 19 points in the second half to help the Pride outscore Towson, 47-31. Keeping with the six theme, he also made six 3-pointers.
Tareq Coburn finished with 14 points to help Hofstra rally from a second-half double-digit deficit for the second consecutive contest. Jalen Ray and Isaac Kante added nine points each for the Pride, which was picked as the CAA preseason favorite entering this season.
