Gymnastics to Host West Chester

TOWSON, Md. – Mental Health is important for the Towson University women's gymnastics team as they host West Chester University.

The meet will take place tomorrow, Feb. 3 inside SECU Arena at 2 p.m.

The home meet for the Tigers is themed "Own your Roar," an initiative started by junior Olivia Lubarsky last season.

Tigers Last Time Out
Towson competed against William & Mary last Saturday afternoon, defeating the Tribe with a season-high score of 194.075-192.975.
 
Ally Wesoly was first in the all-around with a score of 38.925. She also was second on the vault with a score of 9.750.
 
Emerson Hurst won first-place on the vault with a score of 9.775. She tied for second on the beam with a 9.750.
 
Mary Elle Arduino won on the balance beam with a score of 9.875.
 
Cortni Baker finished in third with her floor routine receiving a score of 9.750.
 
Baker, Wesoly and Leah Smtih all tied for third-place on the uneven parallel bars (9.725).
 
Scouting the Golden Rams
West Chester defeated Springfield College 191.85-186.5 on Sunday afternoon. Jessica Meakim won both the vault (9.725) and floor (9.825) exercise events.
 
Sarah Boyd won the beam with a score of 9.75 and tied for fourth-place on the vault with a 9.625.
 
Melanie Wojewoda and Jordan Miranda tied for second on the beam with a score of 9.700.
 
Freshman Rose Fanara placed second on floor with a 9.700.

Tigers Promotion
Fans will have the opportunity to enjoy a coloring station and take photos with the gymnastics cutouts on the concourse. After the meet, there will be a chance to get autographs by the Tigers.
 
About 'Own Your Roar'
The meet on Sunday is themed "Own Your Roar" an awareness program created to encourage students and student-athletes to advocate for their own mental health.

On the concourse, there will be tables of information from Med Star, Sheppard Pratt, Renfrew and TU Counseling Center.
 
National Rankings
  • Hurst is ranked first in the league on balance beam with an average score of 9.867 and a high score of 9.875 and 24th in the nation with the 14th highest average score of 9.867.
  • Ally Wesoly is ranked fourth in conference in the all-around with an average score of 38.600 and a high score of 38.950. She is tied for seventh on the uneven bars (9.750 avg., 9.850 high), 16th on vault (9.675 avg., 9.750 high) and 23rd on beam (9.658 avg., 9.800 high).
  • Cortni Baker is ranked 15th in conference on vault with an average score of 9.685 and a high score of 9.750. She is tied for 11th on floor (9.792 avg., 9.825 high) and 22nd on the uneven bars (9.650 avg., 9.700 high).
  • Nikki Borkowski is ranked 23rd in conference on vault with an average score of 9.624 and a high score of 9.700.
  • Leah Smith is ranked 12th in conference on the uneven bars with a 9.725 average and a high score of 9.725.
  • Mary Elle Arduino is ranked 15th in conference on beam with a 9.742 average and a high score of 9.875. She is tied for 22nd in conference on the uneven bars (9.650 avg., 9.700 high) and 22nd on floor (9.733 avg., 9.750 high).
 
Amplitude the Awards
Emerson Hurst was named East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Rookie of the Week. Hurst won the honor after her three-event performance at William & Mary.
 
In the dual meet, she won the vault title with a 9.775, tied for second on beam with a 9.850 and tied for sixth on the floor with a 9.700.
 
Tigers in the Community
•Towson is the Division I national champion of the NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Competition for the Fall 2018 semester. Towson completed the most community service hours among all schools in the competition, including 75 different Division I departments and approximately 300 total programs across the country.
 
•The Tigers have been chaperones at a clinic in Pennsylvania as well as helping with the High Performance Clinic on Sunday, Jan. 13 inside the Towson Center.
 
•The Tigers also host a kid's night out each semester.
 
•Throughout the semester, the team will have local schools visit to talk about setting goals.
 
Up Next
The Tigers travel to Chapel Hill, North Carolina to compete against University of North Carolina on Feb. 9th. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. inside of Carmichael Arena.
