Men’s Lacrosse Skyrockets into National Polls

TOWSON, Md. -- Coming off a huge win over a top-10 team, the Towson University men's lacrosse team vaulted into the national rankings in all three major polls that were announced throughout the day on Monday.

Towson (1-0) utilized a 13-1 run between the second and third quarters to pick apart Charles Street rival No. 7 Johns Hopkins 17-8 in the Tigers' home opener at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium.

In the USILA/Warrior and New Balance Coaches' Poll, the Tigers landed 10th after receiving votes in the preseason poll. The Tigers collected 189 points among voters. Yale (378) had 18 first-place votes to occupy the top spot, followed by Loyola (354), which collected the remaining first-place selection. Maryland (331), Penn State (309) and Denver (299) rounded out the top five.

The Inside Lacrosse Division I Media Poll saw the Tigers leap from the receiving votes column to the No. 7 slot. The Tigers collected 340 points in the poll. Idle Yale was ranked first with 578 points and 28 of the 29 first-place votes. Loyola (535), Maryland (511), Penn State (498, 1) and Cornell (453) rounded out the top five. The Tigers will play Loyola on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at Unitas Stadium with a 6 p.m. start time. Towson will also face Cornell on March 10 at The Crown Lacrosse Event.

In the Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine Top 20, the Tigers vaulted into the top 10, landing in the No. 9 spot after Towson was not ranked in the publication's preseason rankings. Yale, Maryland, Loyola Cornell and Penn State all represented the top five in order.

The No. 10/No. 7 Tigers head to Emmitsburg, Maryland on Friday for a 3 p.m. showdown against Mount St. Mary's.
