No. 11 Tigers Head to No. 22 Georgetown

TOWSON, Md. – The slate of ranked opponents continues for the Towson University women's lacrosse team with a road game at No. 22 Georgetown on Saturday afternoon. Opening draw is set for 3 p.m.
 
The game will be streamed on GUHoyas.com for video, while Ben Rosenbaum will have the radio stream on the Towson Sports Network. Streaming links for Saturday are posted on the schedule page.
 
Last Time Out
The Tigers are coming off a tough season opener at Penn State last weekend. Towson entered halftime with a one-goal lead but the Nittany Lions opened the second half with four unanswered goals. The road team responded with two goals eventually but Penn State's offense didn't stop. Sophomore Kaitlin Thornton led the Tigers with three goals while Natalie Sulmonte and Annie Sachs scored two goals each. In the final four minutes the Nittany Lions scored three more goals and sealed the win.
 
The Georgetown Series
Saturday will be the 24th meeting between Georgetown and Towson as the Tigers hold the series lead 13-10. Towson has won the last five straight meetings and have met every year since 2013. At home the Hoyas are 7-7 against the Tigers.
 
Last Time Against the Hoyas
Last February the Tigers hosted the Hoyas at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium and came out with a dominating 21-13 win. Then-senior Emily Gillingham led the team with eight points from seven goals and one assist. At the end of the first half Towson held a 10-5 lead, capped with two straight goals before the clock ran out. Entering the second half the Tigers scored two more, on a four-goal run, before Georgetown responded. Towson ran up to a 17-9 lead with solid time remaining, both teams traded goals in the remaining minutes, putting the home team only further ahead.
 
Scouting Georgetown
In the opening weekend the Hoyas took a win over Saint Joseph's 12-9 in Philadelphia. Senior Francesca Whitehurst led the way with three goals, an assist, two ground balls and two draw controls. Whitehurst was named the Big East Midfielder of the Week.
 
Looking Ahead
Next week the Tigers continue their three-game road swing to open the 2019 season with a trip to Navy on Saturday.
