No. 19 Towson Travels to No. 18 Navy

TOWSON, Md. – Facing its third ranked opponent of the year, the Towson University women's lacrosse team travels to No. 18 Navy on Saturday afternoon.

The game will be streamed on Stadium and live stats will be available on NavySports.com, while Brandon Sacks will have the call on the Towson Sports Network.

Last Time Out
The Tigers are coming off a tough road loss at then-No. 22 Georgetown last Saturday 10-7. Carly Tellekamp, Kaitlin Thornton and Natalie Sulmonte scored two goals each and all had one assist. Sulmonte scored the opening goal and the back-and-forth scoring ensued. Towson trailed by two entering the locker room at halftime and scored the first goal in the second half to cut the lead to one. With 18 minutes left the Hoyas led 7-5, Tellekamp was able to cut the lead four minutes later. Shelby Stack tied it up with a free position attempt and 13 minutes on the clock, but Georgetown scored three unanswered goals to close out the win.

A New Series
Although Towson and the United States Naval Academy are separated by 45.7 miles of highway, these two teams have never met. The Tigers and Midshipmen will play each other for the first time Saturday. Navy added its women's lacrosse team in 2008.

Scouting the Tigers
After falling at Georgetown the Tigers sit at 0-2 for the year. Sophomore Kaitlin Thornton is leading the team with seven points from five goals and two assists. Natalie Sulmonte has scored four goals while Carly Tellekamp and Annie Sachs have scored two each. Towson has a team shots-on-goal percentage of 69.8 and is averaging seven goals per game. Thornton is seventh in conference stats for goals per game and points per game. Olivia Conti is third in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in caused turnovers per game, averaging 3.5.

Scouting the Midshipmen
Navy enters the weekend 1-1 after falling to No. 16 Virginia on the road and taking down Saint Joseph's at home. The Midshipmen were selected to finish second in the Patriot League with eight votes for first place. Ranked 18th in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Poll, Navy is 20th in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and receiving votes in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Women's Top 20. The Midshipmen are led by midfielder Kayla Harris who has scored eight goals in two games. Navy's goalkeeper Gab Harchelroad has a 33.3 save percentage through two games and has 13 saves thus far.

Tigers in the Rankings
This week Towson is 19th in the IWLCA Poll. The Tigers are receiving votes in both the IL Media Poll and US Lacrosse Top 20.

Tough Road Ahead
The Towson women's lacrosse team has tough opponents slated for the 2019 season. The first two games of the year were on the road against ranked opponents and a third is ahead as well. Towson will host Stony Brook next Friday at 7 p.m., the Seawolves are in the top-10 in all three polls, including the top-5 in two. Loyola, Michigan, Johns Hopkins and James Madison all remain ranked or receiving votes, all remaining opponents on Towson's schedule. The Tigers will face Michigan and JMU on the road.

A Family Affair
Last week the Lynch Family was featured on TowsonTigers.com for their story of all three siblings playing sports at Towson. Meg and Molly Lynch aren't the only sisters on this team. There are four sets of sisters playing for the Tigers this season including two sets of twins. Ironically enough, three of the four sets all went to the same high school together in New York.
