TOWSON, Md. – Friday night the No. 23 Towson University women's lacrosse team will host No. 10 Stony Brook in its 2019 home opener.
Opening draw is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium and the game will be streamed on TowsonTigers.com.
Last Time Out
The Tigers are coming off a one-goal loss at No. 18 Navy last Saturday. Junior midfielder
Annie Sachs led the team with five goals as Towson outshot the Midshipmen 12-to-9 in the first stanza. Towson trailed by one goal with almost two minutes remaining, but the Tigers did not get a shot off in their final possession.
The Stony Brook Series
Friday will be the fifth meeting between these two teams. The Seawolves have won all previous meetings. Last season Towson traveled to Long Island to face a top-ranked Stony Brook and fell. The Seawolves have only played at Unitas ® Stadium once previously. In the last matchup in Towson, Stony Brook won 10-9.
Last Time Against the Seawolves
March 17, 2018 the Tigers faced Stony Brook on the road, falling 13-8. Then-senior
Emily Gillingham scored three goals to pace Towson. The Seawolves jumped out to a five-goal lead before the Tigers took a 6-1 run and tied the game up 7-7. Towson had a then-season-high 22 turnovers, giving the home team an advantage to score and Stony Brook did with five unanswered goals to take the win.
Scouting the Tigers
Towson enters the weekend after falling in the first of its three games of the year. All three opponents have been ranked: No. 12 Penn State, No. 22 Georgetown and No. 18 Navy.

Kaitlin Thornton leads the team in points with 10 on six goals and four assists.
Scouting Stony Brook
The Seawolves enter the weekend with a 1-1 record after defeating 13
th ranked Colorado in Boulder and falling to 16
th ranked Denver, also on the road. Stony Brook was ranked in the top-five in all three polls entering the season and sits at No. 10 currently in all three. The Seawolves were selected to win the America East women's lacrosse title following their 2018 Final Four run. Stony Brook is led by Ally Kennedy with five goals and Taryn Ohlmiller with 10 points from four goals and six assists. Goalkeeper Anna Tesoriero holds a .619 save percentage in the cage with 26 saves this season. As a team the Seawolves are ranked fourth in save percentage nationally (.619). Ohlmiller is sixth in the nation in assists per game (3.0) while Tesoriero is third nationally in individual save percentage.
Causing ALL the Turnovers
Junior
Sami Chenoweth currently leads the nation in caused turnovers per game with an average of four. As a team the Tigers are 18
th with 13 per game. Against Penn State in the season opener Towson had a season-best 11 caused turnovers. Chenoweth had a season-high three at Navy over the weekend.
A Reunion of Sorts
Two members of the Stony Brook roster, Caitlyn McDuffee and Keri McCarthy, went to high school with members of the TU roster. McDuffee is a junior from Huntington, New York and attended St. Anthony's with
Olivia Conti. McCarthy is a senior from Hauppauge, New York and was a classmate of
Carly Tellekamp's at Hauppauge.
Tigers in the Community
Two weeks ago, Towson University's athletic teams were celebrated as national champions after winning the NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Competition. The competition was open to all Division I programs and the Tigers finished on top with a total of 5,583 community service hours completed from September to November 2018 in the Greater Baltimore Area.
