Men’s Lacrosse Ranked Fifth Across the Board

TOWSON, Md. -- After a split weekend and a tough outing on Sunday, the Towson University men's lacrosse team remained in the top five of the national polls this week, falling from the number one spot last week.

In the USILA Warrior/New Balance Coaches' Poll, Towson slid to the number five spot, collecting 316 points. Penn State was the top-ranked team in the Coaches' Poll, garnering 12 first-place votes and 385 total points. Duke, which hosts Towson on Saturday, was ranked second with 365 points and three first-place nods while Ivy leaguers Yale (357) and Cornell (334) rounded out the top four, earning four and one first-place vote, respectively.

The Inside Lacrosse Media Poll saw the Tigers drop to five as well with 418 points. Penn State was the number one time, according to the media, with 517 points and 14 first-place nods. Duke was second with 495 points and five first-place votes while Cornell was third with 471 points and three first-place nods. Yale accounted for 446 points and four first-place nods, good enough for fourth. Maryland earned one first-place vote and had 408 points for sixth place.

Towson was also ranked fifth in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Top 20. Yale was ranked first, followed by Penn State, Cornell and Notre Dame.

The Tigers (5-1) return to North Carolina this weekend for a showdown with No. 2 Duke. Game time at Koskinen Stadium is set for 1 p.m. The Blue Devils (6-1) will host Division I newcomer Utah Tuesday night.
