TOWSON, Md. – The 2019 season continues for the Towson University women's lacrosse team as the Tigers host Saint Joseph's for a midweek evening game. The Hawks come to town for a Wednesday tilt beginning at 7 p.m.

Last Time Out
The Tigers saw a tough opponent at the Big Ten leader No. 13 Michigan on Sunday afternoon. Towson came home with a 12-11 loss after the Wolverines scored in the final 10 seconds to seal the win. Both
Natalie Sulmonte and
Kaitlin Thornton scored four goals apiece. After trailing early in the first period the road team came back to tie the game, before Michigan took a two-goal lead into the locker room. The Tigers saw three goals from Thornton in the opening minutes of the second half, taking an 8-7 lead. A 4-0 run from the Wolverines gave a three-goal deficit to the road team, trailing 11-8 with 9:10 remaining. One goal from
Abby Wilkinson, Sulmonte and Thornton tied the game up with 23 seconds to go, before Michigan found room to score again.
The Saint Joseph's Series
A series that began before any player on either team was born, has only two games played in it. Towson holds a 2-0 lead over the Hawks after a 21-4 win in the first meeting in 1995 and a win last year on the road. This will be the third meeting between the two teams.
Last Time Against the Hawks
Last March the Tigers traveled to Philadelphia and came home with a 13-2 win over the Hawks. Towson was led by
Natalie Sulmonte who scored four goals while goalie
Kiley Keating grabbed nine saves. The Tigers took a 7-0 lead into the locker room at halftime with two from
Carly Tellekamp. Entering the second half the road team scored twice more before SJU finally got one in. Towson led 9-1 with 20:43 left and scored four goals in eight minutes to seal the win.
Scouting the Tigers
With six ranked opponents in the first games of the year, Towson has seen a tough time out. The Tigers haven't seen a win yet but have had close games with Navy and Michigan. Junior
Sami Chenoweth leads the nation in caused turnovers per game, averaging 4.17 with a total of 25 thus far. Leading on offense are
Natalie Sulmonte and
Kaitlin Thornton with 12 goals apiece, Thornton leads the team in points with 18 after adding on six assists. Junior
Olivia Conti leads the squad in ground balls with 14 while Sulmonte leads in draw controls having won 21. As a team the Tigers are 14th nationally in caused turnovers per game and in the top-60 in clearing percentage.
Scouting Saint Joseph's
The Hawks come to town with a 3-3 mark after defeating Lafayette 16-12 on Saturday. Saint Joseph's is led by Francesca Donato with 14 goals and 13 assists for 27 points. The Hawks have two players with eight caused turnovers this year while Sinead Brierley leads in ground balls with 18. Bridget Cerciello leads the team in draw controls, she's won 22 this year and has 17 ground balls. Saint Joseph's is averaging 13.33 goals per game and has scored double-figures in five of its six games this year.
CAA In Sight
Four games separate Towson and the first came of conference play against Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) foe James Madison. After Wednesday the Tigers have five home games remaining, including three conference matchups. Towson was voted to finish second in the CAA Preseason Poll.
Tigers in the Community
In February, Towson University's athletic teams were celebrated as national champions after winning the NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Competition. The competition was open to all Division I programs and the Tigers finished on top with a total of 5,583 community service hours completed from September to November 2018 in the Greater Baltimore Area.
