Sulmonte Finishes with Five in Back-and-Forth Game

BOX SCORE HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Despite a season-high five goals from senior Natalie Sulmonte, the Towson University women's lacrosse team fell 12-8 Wednesday night at High Point University.

The Tigers and Panthers battled back and forth all night in a game that featured four ties, but Towson was held off the board over the final 11 minutes. Sulmonte finished with six points on her five goals while adding an assist. Junior netminder Kiley Keating made 14 saves.

No. 24 High Point was paced by five points from Abby Hormes, who netted three goals and had two assists. Sarah Zeto made eight saves in the win for the the Panthers (5-4).

How it Happened
  • High Point jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes on goals from Ashley Britton and Rachel Foster. Sulmonte trimmed the lead in half less than a minute after Foster's goal to make it 2-1 with 24:38 to play in the first.
  • The Panthers scored another pair of goals from Hormes and Meredith Chapman before the Tigers reeled off three unanswered tallies. The first two goals came from Sulmonte to complete the hat trick before Annie Sachs netted a free-position chance at 4:22 of the half to tie the game for the first time at 4-4.
  • High Point took a 6-4 lead into the halftime break as Britton and Foster capped the first 30 minutes just a minute apart from one another.
  • Towson came storming out of the break and retied the action at 6-6 as Sulmonte scored another set of back-to-back goals at 27:18 and 24:50.
  • High Point broke the stalemate at 16:33 on a Samantha Herman goal, but Towson took its first lead of the night at 8-7 as Rayna Deltuva and Sulmonte scored back-to-back. The Panthers scored the final five goals of the game, with two from Hormes, one from Britton while Mena Loescher and Allie Little scored one apiece.
Behind the Numbers
  • High Point out-shot the Tigers 34-26, putting 26 shots on goal. Keating made 14 saves, one shy of tying her season best.
  • The Tigers controlled the center circle with a 15-8 edge. Sulmonte grabbed seven of those wins as rookie Kerri Thornton collected another six.
  • Sami Chenoweth and Olivia Conti caused three and two turnovers apiece. High Point was charged with a dozen turnovers.
Up Next for Towson
  • Towson is idle for the next 10 days before returning home to Johnny Unitas ® Stadium on Saturday, March 30.
  • The Tigers will play Yale University for a 3 p.m. opening draw that day following a men's lacrosse game against Hofstra at noon.
